Abstract

This article aims to analyze the strategic role of zakat and waqf in supporting the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 10, which focuses on reducing social and economic inequality. This research uses a literature study approach to analyze literature and secondary data related to the implementation of zakat and waqf in reducing socio-economic inequality. The results show that Zakat functions as an instrument of wealth redistribution that directly targets underprivileged groups through consumptive assistance and productive zakat programs that empower mustahik to become economically independent so that it has an influence on reducing poverty and improving welfare. Meanwhile, waqf provides long-term contribution through financing the sustainable development of education, health, and social infrastructure facilities. In conclusion, zakat and waqf have great potential to support SDGs 10 by creating a more inclusive, just and prosperous society through sustainable reduction of socio-economic inequality.

Abstract

Islamic finance plays a strategic role in supporting inclusive and sustainable economic development. One important sector that requires attention is the agricultural sector, which directly contributes to the achievement of several SDGs. This research analyzed potential Islamic finance schemes supporting agricultural sector financing and its impact on achieving SDGs. It employed a qualitative method with a literature study approach supported by relevant secondary data. The research investigated journal articles primarily sourced from Google Scholar with a range of research years from 2019 to 2024. As a result, 8 articles were obtained. Meanwhile, secondary data related to Islamic finance was obtained from the official websites of related banks, OJK, and SGIE Report. The results of this study show that Islamic financial schemes that can be a solution are salam financing, mudharabah, musyarakah, and waqf. Salam financing, for example, provides a solution for farmers to obtain working capital at the beginning of the planting season. Meanwhile, mudharabah and musyarakah allow for a fair partnership pattern with risk and profit sharing. On the other hand, waqf, especially productive waqf, offers a long-term orientated scheme to support agricultural infrastructure and farmer empowerment without additional financial burden. The impact of Islamic financing on the SDGs is significant, especially in enhancing resilience, responsible production and consumption, and climate improvement. The results of this study are expected to provide practical recommendations for Islamic finance stakeholders in supporting a sustainable agriculture sector and add insight for readers regarding Islamic finance for the agriculture sector.

Abstract

This study investigates how the environmental consequences of economic growth and urbanization are shaped by the ethical configuration of financial systems rather than by growth patterns alone. Using data from Indonesia between 2018 and 2023, the research employs moderated regression analysis to examine the role of Islamic finance as a relational mechanism that influences how developmental pressures are absorbed or amplified within ecological systems. The findings indicate that both economic growth and urbanization contribute significantly to environmental degradation. However, when Islamic financial principles are present, the nature of these contributions shifts in important ways. Rather than functioning solely as a funding mechanism, Islamic finance appears to guide behavioral choices by embedding capital within a value system that prioritizes long-term responsibility, fairness in allocation, and sensitivity to collective outcomes. This moderating role reflects not only statistical interaction but a broader shift in how economic and spatial expansion are governed. Sustainability, in this framework, is not treated as an external target but as an internal property of how trust, legitimacy, and environmental ethics are encoded into financial decisions. The study offers a new lens through which the link between development and environmental harm can be understood as contingent upon the normative frameworks that regulate how value is created, exchanged, and sustained.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the 2021 UPZ scholarship program for its recipients, namely North Sumatra UIN students. This research is a quantitative descriptive method by distributing questionnaires to students receiving UPZ scholarships in 2021 and obtained 50 people as research samples. The results show that the effectiveness of the 2021 UPZ Scholarship program for North Sumatra UIN students has been running effectively because it has received a percentage of 79.59% which has exceeded the 61% figure which is the benchmark that a program can be said to be effective if it exceeds that percentage. This scholarship is given for the collection of zakat funds for all lecturers and workers in the State Islamic University of North Sumatra. The distribution of zakat funds can be carried out if there are mustahik groups in the environment or related agencies.
