Abstract

This study discusses gender relations in Javanese society through the analysis of QS. al-Nisa': 1 and 34. These verses are often referenced in shaping relationships between men and women, particularly in Javanese society, which is characterized by strong traditions and social norms. This study aims to examine how the interpretation of QS. al-Nisa' verses 1 and 34 is understood and applied within Javanese cultural concepts such as kanca wingking and sumur, dapur, kasur as well as how Qur'anic values interact with local traditions. This research employs a qualitative approach using textual analysis of Qur'anic exegesis and cultural observation methods. The findings reveal a dynamic interaction between Qur'anic interpretations and Javanese cultural values, where the exegesis of these verses is often adapted to align with the prevailing patriarchal system. Nevertheless, there are efforts to reinterpret these verses to foster more just and equitable gender relations. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the relationship between sacred texts and local cultures while offering a new perspective on examining gender relations within diverse societal contexts.

Abstract

This article aims to examine the tradition of Thursday Legi Quranic Khatam at the Al-Baqoroh Islamic Boarding School for Girls in Kediri City. This research is a field study that uses a qualitative research approach. In this study, the author employs the interpretative anthropology theory of Clifford Geertz. The research results are summarized as follows:Firstly, the tradition of Quranic Khatam at the Al-Baqoroh Islamic Boarding School for Girls in Kediri City is initiated by alumni with the purpose of strengthening the bonds of friendship with the school's caretakers and among alumni, as well as assisting alumni in maintaining and improving their Quranic recitation and memorization. The Quranic Khatam is recited collectively and is divided into portions that are assigned to different participants. The research results indicate that the practices in the Quranic Khatam activity include reciting tawassul (supplication seeking the intercession of holy figures) to the scholars of Lirboyo and ancestors, followed by the Quranic Khatam itself, a closing supplication for the completion of the Quran, slow and deliberate recitation (tartil), recitation of Quranic blessings and the Busyro blessing, recitation of beautiful supplications (mauidhah hasanah), and the conclusion. Alumni have different interpretations of the Thursday Legi Quranic Khatam activity. Some of the meanings attributed to it by alumni include it being a form of service to the scholars of Lirboyo, a way to strengthen bonds of friendship, a means to encourage goodness, and a motivation for alumni to improve their Quranic recitation and memorization. Abstract

This article discusses the principle of al-nahi (prohibition) in the context of QS. Al-Māidah verses 6 and 8, particularly its relevance to social media ethics in the Indonesian digital era. The purpose of this study is to analyze how the principle of al-nahi can be applied in the context of social media use, especially in preventing the spread of hoaxes, slander, and hate speech. This study uses a qualitative method with a thematic interpretation (maudhu'i) approach. The results show that the principle of al-nahi in QS. Al-Māidah verses 6 and 8 provides an important principle for building healthy social media ethics, namely by preventing actions that lead to moral, social, and religious damage. Verse 6 contains the importance of maintaining moral purity, for example, before posting or commenting, a person must ensure that their intentions are free from hatred, slander, or lies. Meanwhile, in verse 8, when a person wants to spread news or comment on a particular issue, they must maintain objectivity and not get carried away by emotions, and are prohibited from spreading hoaxes and hate speech. This prohibition reflects the urgency of maintaining justice and truth in digital communication.
