Abstract

This research is conducted to describe Maleficent’s superego and its function in Robert Stromberg’s Maleficent movie 2014 version by applying Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalysis. The qualitative method is used to describe the analysis. The result of this research reveals the evolution of Maleficent’s superego before and after Aurora’s birth. The first one is the superego believing that humans are wicked, represented by the human king and Stefan. In the second one, after meeting Aurora, her superego changes into believing that humans can be good. In the end, she is the true love of Aurora and can live side by side with her, eventually leading a harmonious life with the human kingdom. Hence, the superego’s function in the movie is pivotal to the plot twist, redefining Maleficent as both a villain and a heroine.

Abstract

Purpose - Pesantren, as Indonesia’s longstanding Islamic boarding schools, have traditionally prioritized Arabic for religious instruction. However, in response to global academic demands, many pesantren are now adopting multilingual approaches, including the integration of English for Academic Purposes (EAP). This study aims to analyze the specific linguistic needs of pesantren students to inform the design of EAP curricula tailored to multilingual Islamic education contexts. Methods - Employing a descriptive qualitative ethnographic method, the research collected data through semi-structured interviews, questionnaires, and observations involving 30 randomly selected university students and institutional stakeholders in an East Java pesantren. Findings – The findings reveal that multilingualism in pesantren fosters cognitive flexibility, intercultural competence, and religious-literacy development, but it also presents substantial challenges for acquiring academic English proficiency. Research implications / limitations -This study highlights the importance of conducting rigorous needs analysis for EAP course design in pesantren and offers practical insights for improving curriculum design, language policy, and teacher preparation. Limitations include the contextual focus on a single pesantren university and the absence of a comparative multilingual education model.Originality - The study’s originality lies in its integration of EAP with Islamic multilingual education, a combination underexplored in current literature. It provides a framework for enhancing pesantren students' academic readiness in both local and global contexts.

Abstract

Searching for research titles and abstracts is made easy with these key word A key element in creating a Qur'anic generation with an accurate knowledge of Islam is raising the proficiency of Qur'anic Education Park (TPQ) teachers. Using engaging and interactive learning materials is one of the best ways to raise the standard of education. This study is going to explore how well flashcard media with daily prayers can improve TPQ teachers' proficiency, particularly in terms of making the subject easier and more enjoyable for students to learn. The research method adopted is action research, involving both qualitativ approaches. The subjects of the research were TPQ teachers from various Islamic educational institutions. To assess the competence increase before and after flashcard use, data were collected via observation, interviews, and questionnaires. The findings showed that employing flashcards can enhance teachers' comprehension and abilities to provide daily prayers in a more systematic and effective manner. Moreover, this approach enhances students' interest in learning, making the learning process more interactive. Therefore, flashcard media can operate as an innovative option for learning daily prayers at TPQ and can help in the development of a more qualified Qur'anic generation. This study suggests that the design and variety of learning media should be further developed to enhance teaching effectiveness in TPQ. The results of the study showed an increase in the average teacher competency score from 62,5 to 85,3 after the use of flashcards (an increase of 36.48%). Therefore, flashcards can be an innovative choice for teaching daily prayers at TPQs and can help develop a higher quality Qur'anic generation. This study also confirms the role of visual learning media in supporting the religious learning process, especially in early childhood religious education.
