Abstract

Background: Drivers have a profession that requires prolonged sitting, leading to the release of bone calcium into the bloodstream, which can trigger the formation of urinary stones or nephrolithiasis. Urinary stone (nephrolithiasis) is a condition where stones form in the urinary tract. Objectives: The aim of this study was to describe the crystal sediment profile in the urine of public transportation drivers on Route 2 in Kupang City. Materials and Methods: This descriptive study involved 16 public transportation drivers on Route 2 in Kupang City as research subjects. Data were collected through interviews.  Results: The results showed the presence of various crystals in the urine sediment, including Calcium Oxalate crystals (25%), Calcium Carbonate crystals (18.75%), Uric Acid crystals (12.5%), and Amorphous crystals (6.25%).  Conclusions: Based on the characteristics and habits of the respondents, it was found that frequent urinary retention, drinking less than 1 liter of water per day, and consuming supplemented or carbonated drinks were the three main factors affecting urine sedimentation in public transportation drivers on Route 2 in Kupang City.

Abstract

A study was conducted on antibacterial activity of white Laos ethanol extract (Alpinia galanga S) on the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria and Salmonella sp bacteria. The white Laos ethanol extract used was a white Laos ethanol extract obtained by extraction with 70% ethanol solvent using percolation method. The effectiveness of white laos ethanol extract was tested by a diffusion method using cylinder. The antibacterial activity of the white Laos ethanol extract is known by observing a drag zone in the clear region around the cylinder, then measured using a sliding range. The experiment used Completely Randomized Design with 5 treatments and 3 replications. The data obtained were then analyzed statistically using analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results showed that the value of F Table 1% <F Count. Subsequent tests using the Honest Real Difference Test (BNJ) showed a diversity coefficient of 0.51% <5% indicating there was a marked difference between each treatment being tested. From these results, it can be concluded that the extract of white Laos ethanol has antibacterial activity against the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria starting at 25% concentration with 10.45 mm2 inhibitory zone and Salmonella sp bacteria starting at 25% concentration with 17,45 mm2 inhibit zone. The higher the concentration the wider the barrier zone.

Abstract

The availability of food sources with adequate protein content represents one of the strategic approaches to preventing stunting. Nata de moringa, an innovative product developed from coconut water and moringa leaves, has considerable potential to serve as an accessible protein source for the community. Therefore, a community service program with the Tani Group of Nekemolo in North Baumata Village was carried out as an effort to prevent stunting. Preliminary observations revealed that participants had limited knowledge regarding the use of coconut water and moringa leaves as functional food ingredients, despite their abundance in the area. Therefore, the program was implemented in the form of education and training on nata de moringa production. The objective of this activity was to enhance participants’ knowledge and skills in producing nata de moringa. The program took place at the residence of the Tani Group chairman in August 2025 and was conducted by the service team through educational sessions on the utilization and production stages of nata de moringa. The knowledge gained was further applied through hands-on training using a demonstration method, where each participant was directly involved in all stages of the production process. Monitoring and evaluation were conducted using a questionnaire related to the product. An evaluation was carried out to determine the percentage increase in participants’ understanding for each question. The results indicated that the average improvement ranged from 18% to 93% by the end of the activity. Furthermore, participants demonstrated strong motivation and willingness to produce independently in the future.
