Abstract

This research explores the challenges faced by Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in responding to the impact of globalization on the character development of students in Bandar Lampung. Utilizing a qualitative literature review method, the study identifies the key issues including value disorientation among students, the normative rigidity of PAI curriculum, and limited pedagogical adaptability by educators. The findings indicate that globalization has not only introduced external pressures such as media influence and cultural shifts, but also exposed internal weaknesses in the implementation of PAI. Despite these challenges, the study also reveals opportunities for transformation through the integration of digital Islamic media, development of contextualized teaching approaches, and strengthened collaboration among schools, families, and communities. These strategies are essential for PAI to maintain its relevance and effectiveness in nurturing a generation that is religiously committed and globally competent. The study underscores the urgency for systemic reform in curriculum design, teacher competence, and learning innovation in order to revitalize Islamic education in the era of globalization.

Abstract

Islamic education in Indonesia faces the challenges of curriculum stagnation and a crisis of integration between religious values and modern science. K.H. Ahmad Dahlan, as the founder of Muhammadiyah, offered the idea of modern Islamic education that emphasizes the integration of progressive and religious values. This study aims to examine Ahmad Dahlan's thoughts in the context of contemporary Islamic education. The method used is a literature study of primary and secondary works, with a historical-critical approach. The results of the study indicate that Ahmad Dahlan's educational concept is transformative, combining the teachings of the Qur'an, active learning methods, and acceptance of modern science. The main findings reveal a gap between Ahmad Dahlan's idealism and current Islamic educational practices, especially in the aspects of value integration and digital literacy. The conclusion demonstrates the importance of recontextualizing Ahmad Dahlan's thoughts in designing an Islamic education system that is adaptive to the challenges of the times without abandoning spiritual values.
