Abstract

Stakeholders and their networks play prominent roles in developing the agricultural sector. For instance, the economic, social, and environmental indicators of farms are sustained by the involvement of stakeholders and other relevant parties. Therefore, exploring the importance and roles of actors has become strategic and vital to recognize. This research aims to determine the strategic stakeholders' typology and mapping using their network analyses on integrated crops-livestock farming systems in West New Guinea. The study was carried out in Manokwari using the focus group discussion on twenty various represented individuals, groups, and mass institutions. The queries discussed were based on background, resources delivery, inter-connectivity amongst actors, intervention, and innovation. The result showed that the stakeholders in mixed crop-livestock are dominated by individuals' that privately manage the farms officially in accordance with the laws. The result also showed that the farming systems in West New Guinea, experience real threats which need to be lowered to mitigate the turn-back effect. The top five shared resources are access, satisfaction, power, knowledge, and time allocation. These resources tend to stay longer to sustain the strong needs of the farms, which are dominated by positive similarity with varying ranges of correlation ranging from negative, neutral to positive. This is because the stakeholders are reluctant to deliver the intervention and innovation, therefore, those with low interest and power need to be promoted to high interest and power by using aids, guidance, and services from each actor in the mixed crop-livestock farms business.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to detect single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in intron-2 on growth hormone receptor (GHR) gene in Papua local chickens using the PCR-RFLP method to study its relationship with growth characteristics. Data on the bodyweight of 49 chickens aged 1, 2, 3, and 4 months (22 males, 27 females) and DNA samples were used for this study. The DNA fragment of size 718 bp in intron-2 of the GHR gene from the study chicken was successfully amplified using a pair of specific primers. The PCR-RFLP/HindIII analysis results found this locus's two genotypes (HindIII++ and HindIII--). HindIII+ and HindIII- alleles were 0.02 and 0.98, respectively.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to characterize swine farming system performances tethered under different agro-ecological zones in Papua. The field study was done in Manokwari regency and involved six districts, i.e. Nothern Manokwari district, Eastern Manokari District, Western Manokwari district, Warmare district, Prafi district and Masni district. Respondents chosen were guided by local extensions, originated from 15 villages. Participatory situation analysis (PSA) was employed to approach swine farmers by using questionnaire. Swine body weights of swinelets and growers were weighed except for mature swine, body lengths and hearth girths were measured using tape. Herd number, number of swinelets, adult swine were recorded. A one-way analysis of variances was used. All data were entered in Excel and analyzed using SPPS version 10.0.. The findings shown that interaction between education and keeping systems occur on work hours and ages. Effect of education is significant on experience, location, and ethnic. In keeping systems, effect is real on experience, work hours, location, and ethnic. Interaction do not significant exist in number of swine including see middle man, visited consumer, litter size, number of farrowing and income sources.

Abstract

Hematologist (coagulation, hemoglobin, sedimentation rate and haematocrit) is a parameter to know Arab chicken's physiology condition. Unfortunately there is however lack information of hematologist Arab chicken available in a farm which the chicken is raising. Twenty Arab chickens which different ages ( 5 months, 7 months and 1.5 years) and different sex (female and male) is used as samples. Blood samples is taken from vena cava in left and right wings. Results of the present study showed that the chicken is healthy, even though the hematocrit is different with literature. The differences is expe,,1.ed by the chicken which used in experiment different with the chicken in the literature.

Abstract

Abstract This study aimed to determine the effect of red fruit juice (RFJ) in drinking water on feed consumption, body weight gain (BWG), feed conversion ratio and drinking water consumption of starter broiler chickens. A total of 100 broiler chickens (straight run) of 4 days old (Lohmann) were fed using commercial diets and given RFJ drinking water treatments as followed: P0 = drinking water 1000ml+0ml RFJ, P1=drinking water 900ml+100ml RFJ, P2=drinking water 800ml+200ml RFJ, and P3=drinking water 700ml+300ml RFJ. During the experiment, the RFJ drinking water treatments were given in a sequential pattern of 3 days ON and 4 days OFF. The results showed that the RFJ drinking water treatments had no effect on feed consumption (P³0.05), but had an effect on BWG (P<0.05), feed conversion ratio (P<0.05), and drinking water consumption (P<0.05). The result of RFJ drinking water treatments on BWG, feed conversion ratio and drinking water consumption had the same pattern, namely the best results were obtained at 200 ml RFJ drinking water treatment and the worst at 300 ml RFJ drinking water treatment. In conclusion, the red fruit juice at a dose of 200 ml in 800 l of drinking water improved the performance of starter broiler chickens, whereas the red fruit juice at a dose of 300 ml in 700 ml of drinking water had no effect on feed consumption but had caused a decrease in the starter broiler chicken’s performance. Keywords: Body weight gain; Feed conversion ratio; Red fruit juice; Starter broiler chickens Abstrak Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian jus buah merah (JBM) dalam air minum terhadap konsumsi ransum, pertambahan bobot badan (PBB), konversi ransum dan konsumsi air minum ayam broiler fase starter. Penelitian menggunakan 100 ekor ayam broiler (unsexing) strain Lohmann umur 4 hari (BB awal 72,83 gram/ekor ± 1,03 dan CV 0,01) yang diberi pakan ransum komersial ad libitum dan air minum perlakuan JBM sebagai berikut: P0 = air minum 1000ml+0ml JBM, P1= air minum 900ml+100ml JBM, P2= air minum 800ml+200ml JBM, dan P3= air minum 700ml+300ml JBM. Selama penelitian, air minum perlakuan JBM diberikan mengikuti pola berurutan yaitu 3 hari ON dan 4 hari OFF.
