Abstract

The function of peer interactions in promoting the mental and emotional well-being of adolescents is examined in this study. The issue discussed is how friendships can either improve psychological health or, in the case of toxic connections, exacerbate mental health issues like anxiety and despair. This study used a literature review approach to examine academic papers on peer interactions and their psychological effects that were published between 2015 and 2024. Research shows that while toxic friendships increase the likelihood of stress and emotional disorders, positive peer connections greatly enhance psychological resilience and emotional regulation. The study's conclusion highlights the value of communities, families, and educational institutions in creating healthy social relationships that support teenagers' mental health.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the comparison between Islamic counseling and Western psychotherapy from theoretical and practical perspectives in supporting the mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of individuals. Using a literature review approach, relevant sources such as scientific articles, books, and academic publications that examine the concepts, methods, and applications of both approaches are analyzed. Islamic counseling is rooted in spiritual values derived from revelation (Al-Qur'an and Hadith), employing techniques such as muraqaba, dhikr, prayer, and spiritual reflection. This approach offers holistic solutions that are relevant to Muslim individuals, particularly in cultural and religious contexts. Conversely, Western psychotherapy is based on the principles of empiricism and humanism, focusing on the development of individual potential and adaptation to psychological challenges through scientific methods such as psychoanalysis, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and mindfulness-based interventions. Despite fundamental differences in philosophy and methods, both approaches share the same goal of enhancing individual well-being. This study also identifies the potential for integrating these two approaches by combining the spiritual strengths of Islamic counseling with the scientific framework of Western psychotherapy to create more inclusive and holistic solutions. Such integration is relevant in modern pluralistic societies to address complex issues such as anxiety, depression, and identity disorders while respecting clients' spiritual and cultural values format.

Abstract

Spiritual well-being and mental health have become increasingly important issues in modern life, which is often marked by stress and uncertainty. Pastoral counseling emerges as an integrative approach that combines Christian spiritual values, psychological principles, and counseling techniques to holistically support individuals. This article aims to map the development and global trends in pastoral counseling research through a bibliometric analysis of 1,848 Scopus-indexed publications from 1970 to 2025. The study adopts the PRISMA approach for data screening and uses the VOSViewer application to visualise the results. Findings reveal a significant increase in the number of publications, with major contributions from the United States, the United Kingdom, and South Africa, as well as leading authors such as Seward Hiltner and Lindsay B. Carey. Institutions like the University of Pretoria were also noted as active contributors in this field. Collaboration and keyword network analysis show that key emerging themes include spirituality, empathy, emotional healing, and responses to global crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic. The study affirms that pastoral counseling is a dynamic, multidisciplinary field that adapts to the evolving needs of society and remains relevant in shaping transformative pastoral care practices. This article is expected to serve as both an academic and practical reference for further research and the implementation of pastoral counseling across various socio-religious contexts.Â
