Abstract

For society of Kei, the most important relationship is the relationship by marriage; every marriage unites two houses (groups) in a relationship called yan’ur-mang’ohoi. The yan’ur house is the groom‟s, while the mang’ohoi house is the bride‟s. Each house is thus related to a number of other houses, some of which are its mang’ohoi and others its yan’ur. In the accepted vocabulary of social anthropology, these of a marriage alliance relationship are defined as “wife-giver” and “wife-taker”. In this study, we focuses on mang’ohoi house in two issues: mang’ohoi house as origin of yan’ur house and mang’ohoi house in relation with the dead or mang’ohoi as most ancestors. This paper is based on data collected during fieldwork visits to different parts of Kei Islands, in the Southeast Moluccas. For good explication, this paper involves two steps. First, we question marriage alliance theory in general, in order to delimit its scope and to reconsider its appropriateness in the case of Kei society. Second, we attempt to trace more closely to society‟s concepts regarding the marriage system and its relation to values.

Abstract

This writing is the result of reasearch and analysis of a death ritual according to Tanimbarese tradition. The purposes of this research investigate and find out about the concept, ritualization and effect of the death ritual which is performed on deceased people in the Tanimbar Islands. In relation to the challenge of this study, we use some theories, derived from the Catholic Church and from a post-structuralist like Michael Foucault, to analyse this traditional Tanimbarese death ritual.

Abstract

The study of self-actualization and alienation is study of cultural studies. Theconcept of self-actualization and alienation confirms Marx's thinking about the labor theory of value. On the one hand, work is understood as human self- actualization, the fullness of human potential, and as a form of social solidarity. On the other hand, work raises the problem of self-alienation. That is, when people prioritize the value of production without being extracted, humans are alienated from them and from their own work. Humans work solely to maintain their lives and to fulfill their needs. Work is no longer meant to self-actualize, but works solely for the benefit of the capitalists. Keywords: Work, Self Actualization, Self Alienation, Capitalism, Dehumanization

Abstract

In Indonesia, the appearance of indigenous revivalism is equivalent to a number of unequal treatments at the local stage such as land seizure of idigenous lands to be coverted intothe consession of national development; this includes the conversions of negeri adat (indigenous villages) in Ambon which is the main locust of this study. The intention of indigenous revivalism is to struggle for native values and regain equality which were neglectedduring the New Order Regime and unfortunately has rooted in the discourse of power. The indigenous euphoria in this reformation era as a matter of fact did not meet with the challengesof native values, instead it is somehow stuck in the local political importances by making bureaucratization, managerialization, and/or administration of native values. Its consequence is that of ethnical projections. The indigenous revivalism discourse has changed into therevivalism discourse of ethnical identity. In that context, specialy of the revival indigenous discourse in Ambon, I would like to discuss three main issue, namely genealogy, powerrelation, and subjectivity. Discussion about the third issue will use the method of critical discourse analysis of Michel Foucault. Keywords: indigenous revivalism, indigenous villages, genealogy, power relation, and subjectivity.
