Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Cooperative Script learning model on students' mathematical concept comprehension skills. This research uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a pretest-posttest control group design. The population of this study is all 8th-grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Toma, and the research samples consist of class VIII-C as the experimental group and class VIII-D as the control group. The data were analyzed using the Liliefors test to check for normality, variance tests for homogeneity, and t-tests to test the hypothesis. The research findings show that: (1) the use of the Cooperative Script learning model improves students' ability to understand mathematical concepts and makes them more focused and actively engaged in learning; (2) the hypothesis test results show that tₕᵢₜ > tₜₐbᵗ (2.583 > 2.000), which leads to the rejection of the null hypothesis (Hₒ) and the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Hₐ). Therefore, it can be concluded that the Cooperative Script learning model influences students' mathematical concept comprehension abilities.

Abstract

This community service aims to integrate the local wisdom of Nias into character education and mathematical logic in Bawonifoso Village. By utilizing local cultural heritage, such as Nias carving art, which contains geometric patterns, and cultural values such as cooperation, honesty, and respect, this program seeks to shape students' character and enhance their mathematical abilities. The program involves students, teachers, and the local community with a culture-based learning approach. The results show significant improvements in students' character, particularly in the aspects of honesty, responsibility, and cooperation. Additionally, the use of geometric patterns in traditional Nias carving helps students understand mathematical concepts in a more practical and contextual manner. Although there are challenges in implementation, especially in terms of teacher training, this community service contributes positively to culture-based education that can improve the quality of education in the region.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the use of Gowe Nilare, a traditional Nias game, as a culturally based learning medium in teaching the concept of circles. The research employed a literature review approach, collecting and analyzing sources related to local culture, mathematical concepts of circles, and experiential learning theory. The findings indicate that Gowe Nilare physically and structurally represents the concept of a circle, both in the formation of players and in the repetitive, cyclical rhythm of movements. The use of this medium not only reinforces students' understanding of circles in a concrete and contextual manner but also enhances engagement and motivation through an instructional approach that integrates local cultural values. Furthermore, Gowe Nilare serves as a tool to strengthen cultural identity and social values such as togetherness and collaboration in the learning process. Thus, Gowe Nilare can be considered an effective and relevant alternative learning medium, while also supporting the preservation of traditional culture within modern educational contexts. This study recommends the broader development and implementation of culturally based learning media to enrich teaching methods in schools.
