Abstract

This study aims to compare the usage patterns, effectiveness, and therapy outcomes of two antiviral drugs, Favipiravir and Remdesivir, in the treatment of COVID-19 at Muhammadiyah Ahmad Dahlan Hospital, Kediri City. A total of 71 medical records of patients treated with Favipiravir and 50 treated with Remdesivir were analyzed, focusing on patient demographics, drug usage, and therapy outcomes. The patient characteristics reveal that Favipiravir was more commonly used in older patients (aged >65 years), while Remdesivir was more frequent in younger patients (aged 0-5 years). In terms of drug usage, Favipiravir was prescribed to 58.7% of patients, compared to 41.3% for Remdesivir. Both antivirals demonstrated high recovery rates, with Favipiravir achieving a 100% recovery rate and Remdesivir 98%. Evaluation of drug effectiveness showed that Favipiravir was superior in reducing CRP levels (34.78) compared to Remdesivir (7.74), while Remdesivir had a shorter average length of stay (5.68 days) than Favipiravir (8.67 days). These findings suggest that while Favipiravir is more effective in reducing inflammation, Remdesivir is more efficient in accelerating patient recovery. Both drugs play significant roles in COVID-19 management, with their use tailored to patient needs.

Abstract

Bone and dental health in adolescents are strongly influenced by adequate vitamin D intake; however, knowledge regarding its proper use remains limited, particularly in semi-urban areas. This community service activity aimed to improve adolescents’ understanding of rational vitamin D (calciferol) use accompanied by basic health-cost literacy education. The program was conducted on March 17, 2026, in Pogalan District and involved 12 adolescents. The study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach. The intervention was carried out through interactive education covering the clinical aspects of vitamin D, rational drug use, and a simple introduction to preventive and curative costs related to vitamin D deficiency. Data analysis was performed using a paired sample t-test to compare knowledge scores before and after the intervention. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge scores after the intervention (p < 0.05), indicated by a shift in knowledge levels from low and moderate categories to predominantly high categories. These findings indicate that the integration of health education with health-cost literacy can support the improvement of adolescents’ understanding regarding the rational use of vitamin D. In conclusion, the educational intervention was effective in improving adolescents’ knowledge regarding the rational use of vitamin D.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to strengthen elementary school students’ knowledge of antioxidants as a preventive effort against the adverse effects of free radicals. The activity was conducted among 17 students in grades 5 and 6, comprising 6 boys and 11 girls, through interactive health education incorporating brief lectures, discussions, visual media, and quiz-based learning games. Data were collected using a 15-item closed-ended pretest–posttest questionnaire to assess changes in students’ knowledge before and after the intervention. The data were analyzed descriptively and subsequently examined using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, as the paired data were not normally distributed. The results showed that the mean pretest sc ore of 7.41 increased to 12.47 in the posttest. The percentage of knowledge achievement improved from 49.41% to 83.14%, with a relative increase of 68.25%. The Wilcoxon test yielded a p-value of 0.0000, indicating a statistically significant difference between knowledge scores before and after the educational intervention. These findings suggest that school-based antioxidant education is effective in improving students’ understanding of free radical sources, the consequences of oxidative stress, and the role of consuming antioxidant-rich foods in maintaining health. This program also has the potential to support the development of preventive health literacy from an early age through a simple, contextual, participatory, sustainable, applicable, relevant, and measurable approach within elementary education settings and the wider school community. Abstract
