Abstract

One of the main problems in the world of education is the weak learning process. Learning in the classroom tends to only teach memorization of information without connecting it to applications in everyday life. The purpose of this research is to find out problems related to material that are considered difficult and how to solve these learning in physics learning at MTS. The methodology of this study uses a mixed method ̀§ where quantitative data is then strengthened with qualitative data. In this study, 2 science teachers, 30 students of grade VII MTS. This study uses interview, observation, and questionnaire instruments. Data is collected by directly going down to the field and analyzed using descriptive analysis for quantitative and qualitative analysis of interview results so that the data obtained becomes comprehensive. The results showed that students had difficulty distinguishing principal and derivative quantities (60%), understanding unit conversions (70%), writing unit symbols correctly (50%), and using measuring tools (57%). After applying Canva-based experimental video media, there was an increase in students' understanding of physics concepts, with an increase in understanding of principal and derivative quantities from 40% to 80%, unit conversion from 30% to 75%, and skills using measuring tools from 43% to 78%. The conclusion of this study is that the use of Canva-based interactive media can be an effective solution in improving students' understanding of the concept of quantities and units, especially for schools that have limited laboratory facilities.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a reliable and relevant science literacy skills assessment instrument for 7th-grade junior high school students on the topic of global warming. The method used in this study is Research and Development (R&D) with the 4-D model, which consists of four steps: define, design, development, and disseminate. The subjects of the study consisted of 25 7th-grade junior high school students. The data collected included the validity, reliability, difficulty level, and discriminative power of the science literacy skills assessment instrument. The results of the study show that: (1) the instrument development steps include research and data collection, planning, draft product development, and design validation. However, the field trial, product refinement based on the field trial, and implementation were not conducted due to time constraints; (2) 14 items were declared valid; (3) the instrument’s reliability was obtained with a KR-20 value of 0.8046, which falls in the very high category; (4) the difficulty level of the questions is 53.3%, categorized as moderate (neither easy nor difficult); and (5) the discriminative power of the questions is categorized as sufficient. Thus, this instrument becomes an alternative that can be used by educators to assess students' science literacy skills.

Abstract

Abstract

Theoretically sound educational ideas and media for teaching are often easier to discuss and debate than their practical implementation in the classroom. Consequently, the purpose of this research is to find problems with the use of learning theories and pedagogical tools. In order to provide a thorough analysis, this research uses a mixed-methods case study methodology, which combines quantitative data with qualitative results. Two science instructors and twenty-six third graders from an elementary school participated in the research. After gathering data via surveys, in-depth interviews, and observational studies, the researchers examined the quantitative data using descriptive statistics and the qualitative findings using thematic analysis. Using visual aids like photos and videos helps 73% of students understand the topic better, while narrative-based learning engages 65% of students. Students' inability to conceptualize abstract ideas is exacerbated by an over-reliance on textbooks, according to field observations, which in turn causes extreme boredom and disengagement. So, it's safe to say that the absence of visual and narrative components is the biggest problem with IPAS lessons. In order to improve students' motivation and critical thinking abilities in the digital age, this research suggests integrating digital storytelling technology with interactive visual media.
