Abstract

Literacy is a fundamental skill that is very important in the field of education, especially for students in Indonesia. This study aims to explore the understanding of 7th and 8th-grade students regarding the importance of literacy, the challenges they face in improving their literacy skills, and to provide recommendations for enhancing literacy programs in schools. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with semi-structured interviews conducted at SMP N 15 Medan. The results of the study indicate that although students are aware of the importance of literacy, they face various challenges, including low reading interest, lack of access to quality reading materials, and minimal environmental support. This research is expected to contribute to the development of more effective literacy strategies in schools through the suggestions and implications provided in this study. Keywords:;;;.

Abstract

The development of the Toba Caldera Geopark as a national priority tourism destination is part of the government’s efforts to drive regional economic growth, improve community welfare, and strengthen Indonesia’s position in sustainable tourism. However, its implementation presents significant challenges in balancing economic development, environmental sustainability, and social justice, particularly for indigenous communities around the area. This study aims to analyze the impact of the Toba Caldera Geopark development policy on the environment and local indigenous communities. A multidisciplinary approach was employed, combining qualitative methods through in-depth interviews and participatory observations, along with quantitative data from surveys and official secondary sources. The results indicate potential conflicts between tourism infrastructure development and nature conservation, including environmental degradation and the erosion of local cultural values. Additionally, there is a risk of marginalization of indigenous communities in terms of access to natural resources and their involvement in decision-making processes. Therefore, this study recommends the need for more inclusive and sustainable policies that place indigenous communities at the center of geopark management. Active participation of local communities, recognition of customary land rights, and development approaches based on local wisdom are essential to achieving equitable, sustainable, and environmentally responsible development of the Toba Caldera Geopark.

Abstract

This study aims to comprehensively examine the influence of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model integrated with the Internet of Things (IoT) on enhancing students’ problem-solving abilities in physics education. The integration of IoT into PBL is seen as a progressive approach to address the growing demand for innovative instructional strategies that promote higher-order thinking skills. A quantitative approach was adopted, utilizing a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group format to assess the effectiveness of the intervention. The participants were 25 undergraduate physics students from the University of West Sulawesi, selected through saturated sampling due to the limited population size. To evaluate students’ problem-solving skills, data were collected using structured written tests designed around five key indicators: understanding the problem, describing the problem, planning the solution, executing the solution, and evaluating the results. Prior to hypothesis testing, normality of the data was assessed using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, followed by paired sample t-tests with IBM SPSS Statistics 23 to determine the significance of differences in pretest and posttest scores. The findings revealed a statistically significant improvement in students’ problem-solving skills following the implementation of the IoT-based PBL model, with results showing significance at the 5% level and gain scores classified as effective. These outcomes demonstrate the potential of the PBL-IoT integration to foster critical thinking and improve educational quality. Therefore, the implementation of this instructional model is recommended for physics educators seeking to enhance student engagement, problem-solving proficiency, and learning outcomes through the integration of emerging technologies.

Abstract

This article discusses policies to improve AI literacy among college students. The development of technology in the digital era is increasingly rapid, and artificial intelligence (AI) has become an important part of various aspects of life, including education. College students as the next generation need to have good AI literacy in order to adapt to the changing times and face the challenges of the increasingly technology-based world of work. AI literacy is not only about understanding how this technology works, but also how to use it effectively and ethically in academic and professional life. The research method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative method, with data collection techniques, namely interviews and documentation studies that aim to examine the development of technology in the increasingly rapid digital era, and artificial intelligence (AI) has become an important part of various aspects of life, including education. The results of the study are then narrated in descriptive form. It can be concluded that AI literacy has an important role in improving the effectiveness of student learning and preparing them for competition in an increasingly technology-based world of work.
