Abstract

This research discusses the relevance of the thought of Muhammad Abduh, a reformist Islamic intellectual, to the policies and work programs of the Indonesian government. Muhammad Abduh is known as a figure who championed the reinterpretation of Sharia principles to respond to the challenges of modernity, focusing on social justice, waqf reform, Islamic financial systems, and education. His thinking provides an important foundation for the development of a modern Islamic economy that is inclusive and equitable. In the context of Indonesian government policy, the 2024-2029 work program that carries the vision of Indonesia Emas 2045 integrates the values of Sharia economics and social justice in line with Muhammad Abduh's ideas. Programs such as strengthening the Sharia economy, optimizing ZISWAF (zakat, infaq, sadaqah and waqf) funds, and alleviating extreme poverty reflect the practical implementation of Muhammad Abduh's ideas. The government also emphasizes economic transformation, halal industry development, increasing Sharia financial inclusion, and Islamic values-based education to strengthen global competitiveness. This study uses a descriptive-analytical method to evaluate the relationship between Muhammad Abduh's thought and public policy in Indonesia. The analysis shows that Muhammad Abduh's ideas are not only relevant in addressing national development challenges, but also provide concrete solutions in creating social justice, community empowerment, and strengthening the Sharia economic system. This research also offers practical recommendations on how Muhammad Abduh's Islamic economic principles can be applied more broadly to support sustainable and inclusive development in Indonesia.

The sampling method in this study was carried out purposively (deliberately) to 28 key informants and 7 key experts. The data used are primary and secondary data. The data were analyzed by descriptive methods, SWOT analysis (Strenght, Weakness, Oppoturnities, Threats) and AHP (Analytical Hierarchy  Process) analysis. This research will be conducted from December 27, 2023, to February 27, 2024. The results showed: 1) Pineapple agribusiness consists of 5 sub-systems, namely the procurement and distribution subsystem of production facilities (saprodi), the on-farm subsystem or agricultural production, the processing subsystem of marketing subsystems and supporting subsystems (institutional); 2) Identification of the strategic environment includes internal factors consisting of 7 strengths and 11 camps, while external factors consist of 7 opportunities and 6 threats; 3) The results of the SWOT analysis show that the development of pineapple agribusiness is in quadrant I (aggressive strategy) with several alternative strategies that can be done including: increasing production by maximizing authorized capital (natural resources and human resources), STA development and expanding market share. The results of the AHP analysis show that the development of STA is the most important alternative in the development of tangkit pineapple agribusiness because the existence of STA will be able to explore all the potential strengths possessed in the development of tangkit pineapple agribusiness.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to ascertain how Islamic banking's financial performance and macroeconomic conditions affect its profitability. The object of this study is Islamic banking in Indonesia from 2015 to 2024, in the form of Sharia Commercial Banks (BUS) and Sharia Business Units (UUS). The independent variables in this study are macroeconomics which is measured through financial ratios, namely inflation and the Rupiah exchange rate (exchange rate) and for financial performance is measured through financial ratios, namely Financing to Deposit Ratio (FDR), Non-Performing Financing (NPF) and Operating Expenses of Operating Income (BOPO), while the dependent variable, namely profitability is measured through Return on Asset (ROA). The data used is monthly financial statement data for the last 10 years taken quarterly (per 3 months) starting from March 2015 to December 2024. The data was analyzed using multiple regression methods. The NPF and BOPO variables had a somewhat significant impact on ROA, according to the t-test results.  In the meantime, ROA was only marginally impacted by the factors of inflation, exchange rates, and FDR.  The F test findings demonstrated that all of the variables—inflation, exchange rate, FDR, NPF, and BOPO—had a substantial impact on ROA at the same time.

Abstract

Islamic philanthropy, particularly waqf, is undergoing a significant transformation from merely a socio-religious instrument with a charitable model to a driving force for sustainable economic development. One strategic innovation in the Islamic banking ecosystem is Cash Waqf Linked Deposit (CWLD), a scheme for managing cash waqf through Islamic deposits that allows the principal to be preserved while the returns are used for social programs and economic empowerment of the community. This study aims to analyze how CWLD can create a multiplier effect on the community's economy by synergizing the social and commercial functions of Islamic banking. The research method used a descriptive-analytical qualitative approach through literature study and source triangulation to assess the concept, implementation, opportunities, and challenges of CWLD using an approach based on the PRISMA 2020 protocol. The results show that CWLD can increase liquidity and third-party funds (DPK) with low-cost funds in Islamic banking, strengthen real sector financing, and create layered social impacts through the empowerment of MSMEs, education financing, and capacity building of nadzir institutions. This scheme encourages the creation of a multiplier effect in the form of increased community income, job creation, growth in economic activity and national output, as well as strengthening the Islamic financial ecosystem and social empowerment. The CWLD scheme effectively integrates the commercial financial sector with philanthropic goals, transforming waqf assets that tend to be passive into dynamic capital for sustainable development. This innovation proves that Islamic philanthropy can be a catalyst for inclusive economic growth and strength while strengthening the intermediary function and social impact of Islamic banking. However, the development of CWLD faces several obstacles, such as the need to improve public literacy, institutional readiness, and the need for regulatory harmonization. The study recommends improving public education, strengthening the capacity of nadzir, optimizing collaboration between regulators and industry, and digitizing governance in the Islamic philanthropy ecosystem. Through these strategies, CWLD has great potential to become a social financial instrument that can strengthen the economic resilience of the community and support inclusive and sustainable national development in accordance with the principles of maqasid sharia.
