Abstract

In March 2025, Indonesia witnessed nationwide student-led protests against fiscal austerity measures, including a VAT hike and military reforms. These demonstrations, organized under the #IndonesiaGelap movement, reflected deepening public discontent over economic inequality and democratic backsliding. This study examines the root causes of the protests, maps public sentiment through digital and ethnographic data, and assesses their implications for Indonesia’s governance framework. A qualitative approach combining social media analysis (2,000 posts) and semi-structured interviews with 15 protest organizers was employed, using thematic decomposition and sentiment analysis. The protests were driven by the VAT increase’s regressive impact (cited by 78% of participants) and amendments to the TNI Law, which enabled military encroachment into civilian roles (62% of social media criticism). Sentiment analysis revealed 65% negative discourse, emphasizing terms such as “oppressive” and “unfair,” while 22% expressed solidarity with the protesters. Demands focused on tax justice, military depoliticization, and agrarian reforms, though government responses prioritized fiscal stability over equity. The movement’s digital strategies, including encrypted apps and viral anthems, bridged urban-rural divides but faced algorithmic censorship. In conclusion, the 2025 protests underscore systemic tensions between fiscal reforms and democratic accountability, highlighting the need for policies that address youth disillusionment and rural marginalization.

Abstract

Widening access to higher education remains a global priority, particularly for regions facing socioeconomic disparities and labor market misalignments. In the ASEAN region, enrollment challenges and workforce demands continue to pose significant obstacles to inclusive and effective higher education systems. This study aimed to explore global and regional strategies that enhance higher education participation and align educational outcomes with workforce needs, specifically focusing on rural and village-based contexts. Using a qualitative comparative design, the study analyzed 25 policy documents and 30 peer-reviewed articles from ASEAN countries and globally. Data were collected through structured document analysis and coded thematically to identify key trends in policy instruments, institutional innovations, digital learning pathways, and international cooperation. The findings reveal that countries achieving high participation and employability rates implement targeted financial aid, flexible learning models, industry-academic collaboration, and decentralized management systems. However, in many ASEAN states, these strategies have yet to reach rural communities due to infrastructural and managerial limitations. This study contributes a novel framework that links higher education participation to village development through adaptive education management and localized workforce integration. The results underline the need for inclusive, context-sensitive policy reforms and institutional accountability mechanisms to ensure sustainable impacts. Practical implications include strengthening local education governance and expanding access to digital and vocational programs in underserved areas.

Abstract

The 2025 Los Angeles wildfires reflect the serious challenges of disaster management in the era of climate change. Increasing extreme temperatures and droughts have exacerbated the frequency and intensity of fires, resulting in significant damage to the environment, public health, and local economies. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of firefighting resources and identify community responses to the disaster. The methods used are content analysis of news from mass media and observation of community responses through social media. Samples were taken purposively from relevant news and posts during the fire incident. The results showed that more than 8,500 firefighters were deployed, utilizing somewhat effective air and ground extinguishing strategies, which increased fire control from 14% to 24% within a few days. On the other hand, 205,000 residents were successfully evacuated, indicating a high level of public awareness and preparedness. Approximately 65% of residents were also actively involved in fire prevention efforts, with social media serving as the primary means of disseminating information. In conclusion, the success of fire control is greatly influenced by resource coordination and community participation. This research makes a significant contribution to the development of more responsive and collaborative fire mitigation strategies in the future, particularly in the context of growing risks associated with climate change.

Abstract

Employee well-being is increasingly recognized as a key driver of operational success in labor-intensive industries, particularly in livestock farming. Workers in this sector endure physically demanding tasks, long working hours, harsh environmental conditions, and high-stress levels, all of which can negatively affect productivity, job satisfaction, and workplace safety. This study investigates the impact of well-being programs on employee productivity, retention, health, and overall farm performance, focusing on livestock farms in West Java, Indonesia. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the research involves semi-structured interviews and field observations with farmworkers and managers. The study evaluates the effectiveness of well-being initiatives, including mental health support, physical wellness programs, and safety training. Findings reveal that farms implementing comprehensive well-being programs experienced a 50% reduction in workplace injuries, a 40% decrease in health-related absenteeism, and a 30% improvement in employee retention. Additionally, task completion rates increased by 25%, and overall worker engagement improved by 35%. The results underscore the strategic benefits of investing in employee well-being for improved operational efficiency and sustainability in livestock farming. From a policy perspective, these findings highlight the need for regulatory support and incentives to encourage farms to implement structured well-being programs. Policymakers should consider integrating mandatory health and safety training, financial incentives for wellness initiatives, and industry-wide standards for employee welfare. This study provides valuable insights for farm owners, policymakers, and researchers, reinforcing the critical role of employee well-being programs in ensuring long-term agricultural success.
