Abstract

Grammar courses often pose significant challenges for undergraduate students, particularly when instructional methods fail to align with their learning needs. This study explores the real-life experiences of four students enrolled in a mandatory grammar course at UIN K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid Pekalongan (UIN Gusdur), focusing on the obstacles they encounter and their efforts to overcome them. Using a narrative inquiry approach, the research gathered data through in-depth interviews and surveys to document the students’ individual perspectives. The findings highlight several critical issues, including ambiguous teaching methods, limited vocabulary acquisition, and difficulties in applying grammatical tenses across different contexts. These challenges are compounded by a lack of sufficient support, which undermines the students’ ability to grasp essential grammatical concepts. Despite these difficulties, the students demonstrated resilience by actively seeking supplementary resources and adopting independent learning strategies. The results underline the importance of targeted pedagogical interventions to address the specific needs of grammar learners. This study concludes by emphasizing the need for educators to provide tailored support and resources while encouraging students to take an active role in their learning. By combining personalized instruction with student initiative, grammar education can become more effective and engaging for learners.

Abstract

Leadership plays a vital role in shaping the effectiveness of student organizations as platforms for developing future leaders. However, limited attention has been given to the specific leadership attitudes expected by members toward their organizational chairperson in non-formal educational settings. This study aims to identify the ideal leadership attitudes perceived by members of student organizations at the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training, UIN K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid Pekalongan. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with sixteen participants from six organizations and were analyzed thematically. The findings reveal five key attitudes communicativeness, critical thinking, assertiveness, inclusiveness and responsibility, and motivation as essential elements of ideal leadership. These results suggest that effective leadership in student organizations requires not only managerial competence but also empathy, emotional intelligence, and consistency. The study recommends integrating these attitudes into leadership development programs to foster inclusive, reflective, and empowering leadership behaviors that enhance organizational harmony and member motivation.

Abstract

Abstract

Language is very important because people use it to share their thoughts and feelings. This study talks about how a singer named Yebba shows her feelings of betrayal and sadness in her song My Mind. Many people listen to songs, but not many understand how the words in a song can show deep emotions. The purpose of this study is to find out how Yebba uses language to express her mental struggle and broken heart. The writers used a qualitative method, which means studying the song’s lyrics carefully to find the meaning behind the words. The research used Halliday’s Systemic Functional Linguistics, especially the part called transitivity, which looks at actions, feelings, and people in sentences. The results show that most of the sentences use material processes, which describe real actions like closing the door or leaving. There are also mental processes that show what the singer thinks and feels, and relational processes that describe what something is like. The song uses language to show both outside actions and inner emotions. In the end, this study shows that Yebba’s My Mind tells the story of betrayal and emotional pain through the way the words are used. It also helps us understand how songs can use simple language to show deep feelings. The study suggests that other researchers can use this method to study different songs and learn how singers express their emotions through words.

Abstract

AI tools like ChatGPT are changing the way we teach and learn English as a foreign language. They make it easier for students to get quick feedback, generate fresh ideas, and dive into fun, creative writing exercises. However, here's the catch: if students lean too heavily on these tools, they might start losing their own sense of independence in learning. This research investigates how the frequency of ChatGPT use relates to EFL students’ perceptions of its usefulness, ease of use, dependence, and its role in fostering creativity in learning English. Adopting a quantitative correlational design with an ex post facto approach, the study involved 38 fifth-semester students from an English Education Department at a university in Pekalongan. Data were gathered through a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using Spearman’s Rank Correlation. Our findings revealed strong positive relationships between how often students use ChatGPT and their perceptions of its usefulness, ease of use, dependence, and creativity. The tightest link was with usefulness (r = 0.811, p < 0.05), followed by creativity (r = 0.658), dependence (r = 0.640), and ease of use (r = 0.584). In short, the more students interact with ChatGPT regularly, the more they value it as a practical and user-friendly learning aid; however, this also increases their reliance on AI for help. The study highlights the importance of pedagogical approaches that foster critical awareness and autonomous learning when integrating ChatGPT into language education
