Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to portray the readiness of junior high school teachers in Makassar City to implement deep learning within the Merdeka Curriculum and to identify the strongest and weakest dimensions of their readiness. The research employed a descriptive quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design, involving approximately 70 teachers from three representative schools selected through proportional random sampling. The instrument used was a five-point Likert questionnaire covering five dimensions of readiness: conceptual understanding, lesson planning, classroom implementation, attitude and motivation, and environmental support. The findings revealed an overall mean readiness score of 3.62, which falls into the “ready” category, with 12% of teachers categorized as very ready, 58% ready, 26% moderately ready, and 4% less ready. The strongest dimension was attitude and motivation (mean 4.02), while the weakest dimensions were environmental support (3.35) and classroom implementation (3.41). These results highlight the need for stronger institutional support, adequate facilities, and practical mentoring to ensure that deep learning can be effectively and sustainably implemented in schools.

Abstract

Community service is conducted at SMAN 1 Sinjai to provide assistance in enhancing the understanding of students and staff regarding correspondence. This assistance aims to equip participants with knowledge about how to compose proper letters based on the principles of correspondence. Writing letters correctly is an essential administrative skill that supports effective communication in both academic and professional settings. The main objective of this community service activity is to improve participants' ability to create and compile formal letters correctly while also introducing proper archiving methods. By mastering these skills, participants can enhance their administrative capabilities, which are essential for academic and professional success. This activity is carried out in three main stages: (1) the preparation stage, where materials and lesson plans are structured, (2) the implementation stage, where participants receive direct training and practice writing different types of letters, and (3) the evaluation stage, where the effectiveness of the training is assessed. The results of this community service activity indicate that participants have improved their letter-writing skills, administrative abilities, and overall understanding of effective correspondence. This initiative not only strengthens participants' technical competencies but also prepares them for future academic and professional challenges in administrative and managerial roles.

Abstract

The background of this research stems from the tension that arises between the formal legitimacy of the presidential threshold and its impact on substantive representation of the people. This research examines the presidential threshold in Indonesia's 2024 simultaneous general elections with the main objectives: (a) to analyse its constitutional basis explicitly and (b) to evaluate its impact on political representation and democratic inclusiveness. The method employed is a normative juridical approach, which involves analysing primary legal materials, including the 1945 Constitution, particularly Article 6A, Law No. 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections, and related decisions of the Constitutional Court. The research findings reveal a crucial dilemma: first, although the threshold has a legitimate legal basis and is a valid legislative policy, its legitimacy is formalistic in nature. Second, its implementation substantially reduces political representation; the 2019 Election data show that parties representing 34.2% of the popular vote cannot participate in the presidential contest, resulting in forced joining coalitions that are often at odds with the aspirations of their constituents. This situation erodes popular sovereignty and contradicts the Pancasila value of social justice, exposing a fundamental tension between the legal form and substance of democracy. The originality of this research lies in its systematic presentation of this representation gap and its normative contribution, proposing a new threshold model of 10–15% to balance political stability with democratic inclusiveness. The implications are practical for policymakers and the General Elections Commission (KPU), as well as theoretical for the global discourse on electoral system design in developing democracies. A limitation of this research is its normative nature, necessitating further empirical studies on voter behaviour and the impact of digital campaigns.
