Abstract

The occurrence of burns on the skin is a type of injury that requires fast and appropriate treatment in order to achieve an optimal level of healing. Handling burns using medicinal plants can be done. One of the plants that can be used is Jatropha leaves. Jatropha leaves contain active substances such as saponins, tannins, alkaloids, and flavonoids that are efficacious as antibacterial, antioxidant, anticancer and antiinflammatory. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of Jatropha curcas leaf extract gel preparations with concentrations of 10%, 15%, 20% on burn wound healing. This study is an experimental study by comparing the effectiveness of burn wound healing in rats in each test group, namely negative control given gel base, positive control given Bioplacenton gel, and three test control groups with each given Jatropha leaf extract gel concentrations of 10%, 15% and 20%. The test results show that the most effective Jatropha leaf extract gel preparation heals rat burns, namely the 20% concentration compared to the positive control with a P>0.914 value (P>0.05).

Abstract

Indonesia has a variety of traditional medicinal plants for treating burns. One of them is Jatropha leaves which contain active substances such as saponins, tannins, alkaloids and flavonoids which have antibacterial, antioxidant, anticancer and anti-inflammatory properties. The aim of this research was to determine the effectiveness of Jatropha leaf preparations with extract concentrations of 10%, 15%, 20% on healing burns. This research stage includes plant determination, simplicia making, extract making, phytochemical screening testing, physical quality testing of gel preparations and animal testing. The research was experimental by comparing the effectiveness of healing burns in grouped mice and Jatropha leaf extract gel preparations and the most effective formula for healing burn wounds was Jatropha leaf extract gel preparations at concentrations of 10%, 15%, 20%. Statistical test results showed that there was a difference in the duration of healing of burn wounds in male white rats between Jatropha curcas (Jatropha curcas L) leaf gel preparations with concentrations of 10%, 15%, 20%, bioplaceton gel and gel base.

Abstract

Wound are a form of damage to anatomical structure and function. When a wound occurs, the integrity of the epithelial structure of the skin is lost and dysfungtion occours in the skin. Therefore, normalization of integrity is required as soon as possible. Bitter melon leaves have benefits for wound healingand repairing skin granulation tissue. to understand the most optimal concentration level of N-Hexane Fraction of Bitter melon leaf ethanol extract in healing white rat incision wound using vaselin carrier and to understand the healing activity of N-Hexane fraction of Bitter melon leaf extract on white rat incision wound healing. The research conducted was an experimental type with the test animal, namely 18 white male rats. The white rats were grouped into 6 groups, where the standard control was group I, the positive control was group II with (injuring and giving sagestam cream) treatment, the negative control was group III with (injuring and giving it vaseline base) treatment, the last group IV, V, and VI were treated (injuring and giving it n-hexane fraction of bitter melon leaves at concentration levels of 1,5%, 3%, 6% and the base was vaseline). Then induced an incisions wound 2.0 cm deep and 0.2 cm long, but before shaving the rat’s back first and then anesthetizing using lidocaine injection. The observation process is carried out for 2 weeks and data collection is every 2 days. Furthermore, conduct statistical test when the data has been collected. Based on the results of observations and testing of the N-hexane fraction of bitter melon leaf ethanolextract, it has activity in healing cuts in white rats and the most optimal concentration in healing cuts is a concentration of 6%. The N-Hexane fraction of ethanol extract of bitter gourd leaves has activity in healing cuts in white rats and the most optimal concentration in healing cuts is 6%.

Abstract

Introduction:Typhoid fever is a systemic infectious disease caused by the bacterium Salmonella typhi. The increasing antibiotic resistance of Salmonella typhi has spurred interest in natural antibacterial agents. This study examines the antibacterial activity of a combination of chitosan and ethanol extract of cocoa leaves (Theobroma cacao L.) against Salmonella typhi. Methods: The research involved extracting cocoa leaves using ethanol and combining the extract with chitosan. The antibacterial activity was evaluated using the well diffusion method on Salmonella typhi. The combination of chitosan and cocoa leaf extract was tested at various concentrations, and chloramphenicol was used as a positive control. Results: The combination of chitosan and cocoa leaf extract showed significant antibacterial activity, with the best results obtained at higher concentrations. The zone of inhibition for the combination at 600 ppm was comparable to that of the positive control of chloramphenicol. Conclusion: The study suggests that the combination of chitosan and cocoa leaf extract has the potential to be developed as an alternative treatment for typhoid fever, particularly against antibiotic-resistant strains of Salmonella typhi.

Abstract

Bacterial infections remain a major global health issue, worsened by rising antibiotic resistance. This study evaluated the antimicrobial activity of the ethyl acetate fraction of Mikania micrantha leaves against Escherichia coli (Gram-negative) and Staphylococcus aureus (Gram-positive) using the disc diffusion method. Phytochemical screening identified flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and steroid/triterpenoids in the fraction. The antimicrobial test showed that this fraction inhibited the growth of both bacteria, with larger inhibition zones observed at higher extract concentrations. At 5% concentration, E. coli showed an inhibition zone of 8.43 mm, while at 15%, the zone increased to 12.26 mm. For S. aureus, the 15% concentration produced a 20.43 mm inhibition zone. Statistical analysis confirmed significant differences between concentrations (p < 0.05). These results suggest that the ethyl acetate fraction of Mikania micrantha leaves has potential as an antibacterial agent, especially effective against Escherichia. coli at 15%.

Abstract

This study investigated the potential anti-diarrheal effects of ethanol extract from Centella asiatica leaves using a castor oil-induced diarrhea model in mice. The extract, obtained from Centella asiatica leaves, was administered orally to mice at various doses. Parameters including the frequency, duration, and onset of diarrhea were measured and compared with control groups. Results indicated a dose-dependent reduction in diarrhea frequency and duration in treated mice. Higher doses of Centella asiatica ethanol leaf extract demonstrated efficacy comparable to loperamide, a standard anti-diarrheal drug. Histopathological analysis further revealed protective effects on intestinal tissue integrity, suggesting a potential mechanism of action for the observed anti-diarrheal activity. These findings underscore the potential of Centella asiatica ethanol leaf extract as a natural alternative for managing diarrhea. The study contributes to the growing body of evidence supporting the traditional use of Centella asiatica in folk medicine for gastrointestinal ailments. However, further research is warranted to elucidate the underlying mechanisms of action responsible for its anti-diarrheal effects and to conduct clinical trials for human validation. In conclusion, this research highlights the significance of exploring natural remedies derived from medicinal plants like Centella asiatica for combating gastrointestinal disorders. The study underscores the potential of Centella asiatica ethanol leaf extract as a therapeutic agent for managing diarrhea and improving public health outcomes.
