Abstract

Abstract

The condition of the Java sea is strongly influenced by changes in surface oceanographic parameters and the atmosphere where surface currents originating from the east follow the winds that blow gradually throughout the year. Changes in currents caused by the influence of the wind cause the movement of the sea surface layer to generate horizontal mixing, which in turn will encourage a shift in the mass of water. The movement pattern of water masses will affect fluctuations in surface oceanographic parameters such as sea surface temperature, chlorophyll-a and salinity. Temperature and Salinity data are obtained from satellite image data which are then visualized using ODV (Ocean Data View) software with a vertical direction from the surface to near the seabed and then analyzed the vertical distribution of temperature, salinity and density representing the West, Transition I, East and Transition seasons. II. The sea surface temperature during the west season and transitional season I is higher than during the east season (August) and the transitional season 2. The salinity value of the sea surface in the west season and transitional season I is lower than during the east season and transitional season 2.

Abstract

Coastal areas are areas of sea and land where the region is under pressure due to activities and phenomena that occur on land and at sea. Coastal problems such as coastal morphological changes such as abrasion and accretion occur. Coastal erosion, also known as abrasion, tends to increase in various areas. The cause of coastal erosion itself is Soil Level Drop, land subsidence, mangrove forest damage, damage caused by wave hydrodynamic forces, damage due to other natural causes and damage caused by other human activities. Some factors of disaster risk include the high impact of extreme wave threats and coastal abrasion, the high vulnerability of a region, and the low capacity to face the threat of disasters. Abrasions make residents lose their homes and farmland and encroachment which has resulted in loss of livelihood and reduced income. Today the majority of productive-aged people have a livelihood as factory workers and construction workers. The vulnerability value of an area is influenced by several factors, namely the high density of residents and vulnerable groups, the high number of poor families and fishing groups, the high density of settlements and the lack of vegetation of coastal areas in the face of disaster threats. One of the mitigations carried out is knowing the extent of damage due to abrasion, Knowing the distribution of abrasion areas and abrasion disaster mitigation with community-based coastal area management and integrated coastal management.

Abstract

ABSTRACTNusa Dua Beach, Bali, is morphologically dynamic because it is constantly changing due to erosion and accretion. In 2003, the efforts were made to develop groins, where this one of the solutions to overcome erosion. Analysis of shoreline changes needs to be carried out to see the effectiveness of groin development by looking at the shoreline before and after construction using Landsat imagery data for 26 years. This research method utilizes the Modified Normalized Difference Water Index (MNDWI) algorithm to separate water from land features, classify images into four classes: sand, water, foam, and land features using the Coastsat toolkit and calculate wave energy flux. Before the construction, The GA1-GA2 groins experienced successive erosion in 1996-2002. After construction of the coastal groins, it still shows a decline in the coastline both during the west monsoon, which is 63.68 m and the east monsoon which is 36.21 m. In the east monsoon, the wave energy flux is most significant, with a maximum value of 4.9 x 10³ N/s, and in the west monsoon 3.4 x 10³ N/s. The effect of the significant wave energy flux that occurs in the east monsoon causes more longshore sediment transport, and the coast experiences a maximum shoreline advance in the east monsoon of 65.24 m compared of the west monsoon shoreline, which is 58.28 m. The toolkit can identify with better accuracy by validating estimation and observation data with an RMSE value of 4.79 m, a bias of 2.62 m, and an R2 of 0.97.Keywords: Shoreline, Erosion, Landsat, Wave Energy Flux  ABSTRAKPantai Nusa Dua, Bali dapat dikatakan secara morfologi dinamis dikarenakan selalu mengalami perubahan akibat erosi dan akresi.

Abstract

The coastal region is characterized by dynamic changes in its coastline, which can be attributed to various factors. However, the main causes of change along the Gresik coast have yet to be thoroughly studied. Therefore, this research aims to examine the patterns of coastline change along the Gresik coast around the Madura Strait and the influence of wind-generated waves on them. Specifically, the study focuses on four coastal zones: Ujung Pangkah, Sidayu, Bungah, and Manyar districts. The research utilizes satellite imagery and geographic information systems (GIS) as well as methods for calculating ocean waves to analyze the coastline change patterns. The study also examines the impact of ocean wave energy on coastal abrasion and accretion. The findings revealed that the accretion rate in the study area was higher than the erosion rate. The accretion in the coastal area of Gresik is attributed to the flow of the Bengawan Solo River, which carries sediment from upstream. The accretion and abrasion areas for the entire period from 2002 to 2019 were 1063.16 ha and 425.23 ha, respectively. The study also found that the mangrove areas exhibit a higher rate of accretion than abrasion, indicating their potential as a reliable indicator of the effects of sea level rise resulting from global warming. This study revealed that the northern part of Ujung Pangkah District and Bungah District experienced the highest abrasion patterns, whereas no abrasion was observed in Sidayu District. Between 2002 and 2019, the abrasion areas in Ujung Pangkah and Bungah districts totaled 243.96 ha and 178.29 ha, respectively. Wind-generated waves were likely the primary cause of the abrasion in these areas, though other factors may also have contributed to coastline changes. It is essential to consider these factors for effective coastal management in the region.

Abstract

Abstract
