Abstract

This study aims to examine in depth Muhammad Umer Chapra's economic thinking in criticizing the capitalist and socialist systems, as well as highlighting his proposal for an Islamic economic system as a fair alternative. This study uses a qualitative approach with a literature review method, focusing on the analysis of Chapra's works and various literature related to the principles of Islamic economics. The results of the study show that Chapra views the capitalist system as incapable of realizing true prosperity because it is oriented towards the accumulation of material wealth and ignores the dimension of morality. Meanwhile, socialism is considered to restrict individual freedom and hinder the productive motivation of society. As a solution, Chapra proposes an Islamic economic system based on the values of tawhid, justice, and maqāṣid al-syarī‘ah, with the aim of realizing social welfare (maslahah) that harmonizes material and spiritual aspects. Through economic instruments such as zakat, the prohibition of usury, and the strengthening of Islamic financial institutions, Chapra emphasizes the importance of proportional wealth distribution and social responsibility. Chapra's ideas are considered relevant to contemporary economic conditions, especially in addressing issues of social inequality, moral crisis, and the demands of sustainable economic development.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of zakat as an economic instrument that can encourage household consumption, increase income equality, and support macroeconomic stability within the framework of Islamic economics. As a form of wealth redistribution, zakat has an important function in distributing part of the muzakki's wealth to the mustahiq, thereby strengthening the purchasing power of low-income groups who tend to have higher marginal consumption. This increase in consumption then contributes to aggregate demand growth and expands economic activity. In addition, zakat acts as an automatic stabilizer that maintains the consumption capacity of vulnerable communities during economic slowdowns, thereby reducing the risk of a decline in aggregate demand and maintaining overall economic stability. This study uses a qualitative method with a literature review approach to examine various scientific sources related to zakat, consumption theory, and the concept of income distribution. The findings of the analysis show that the success of zakat as an economic instrument is greatly influenced by professional and transparent governance, as well as targeted distribution, particularly through productive zakat programs that encourage the independence of mustahiq. Zakat also has significant potential in strengthening the Islamic economic structure oriented towards justice through reducing inequality and improving community welfare. Thus, optimizing zakat management is a strategic effort to build an inclusive, sustainable economy that supports the empowerment of vulnerable groups.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effects of inflation, exchange rates, and global oil prices on the Jakarta Islamic Index (JII) in Indonesia. The approach used in this study is a quantitative approach utilizing secondary time-series data for the period 2016–2025, consisting of 120 monthly observations. The analytical technique used was multiple linear regression, with first-difference transformation to address the issue of data nonstationarity. The results indicate that inflation does not have a significant effect on the JII. Conversely, the exchange rate was found to have a significant negative effect, suggesting that a depreciation of the rupiah tends to dampen the performance of the Islamic stock index. Meanwhile, global oil prices have a significant positive effect on the JII. Collectively, these three variables account for 29,34% of the variation in the JII. These findings are expected to serve as a useful reference for investors and stakeholders in understanding the dynamics of macroeconomic factors in the Islamic capital market.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the concept of work from an Islamic perspective through the maqashid al-sharia approach, the concept of falah, and the Islamic work ethic as a foundation for navigating the dynamics of the modern workplace. The study employs a qualitative method using a literature review approach through the analysis of various relevant journals, books, and literature. The results indicate that Islam views work not merely as an economic activity but also as a form of worship and a moral responsibility of humanity as stewards on Earth. The concept of maqashid syariah positions work as a means to safeguard religion, life, intellect, lineage, and wealth, while the concept of falah emphasizes a balanced pursuit of worldly and afterlife well-being. The implementation of the Islamic work ethic is reflected through the values of discipline, trustworthiness, honesty, professionalism, justice, and humane workplace relationships. Furthermore, Islamic spirituality and organizational culture play a crucial role in helping Muslim workers cope with the pressures of productivity, individualism, and materialism in the modern era. Thus, the Islamic perspective offers a work paradigm that is not only oriented toward productivity and material gain but also toward blessings, life balance, and social welfare.
