Abstract

Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women worldwide. It is estimated that every year there are around 32,469 new cases of Indonesian women detected with cervical cancer and 23,300 women die. The number of childbearing age couples who perform VIA tests is very small compared to the number of PUS in the Bangkinang Health Center Working Area, Kampar district. Precisely in Laboy Jaya Village, the number of PUS is 503 couples. The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitudes towards maternal motivation in the VIA test. Type of quantitative research with cross sectional design. The research was conducted in 2022 with a sample of 125 people. The research instrument used a research questionnaire. Data analysis was carried out univariate and bivariate. The results showed there was a relationship between knowledge (p value = 0.001) and attitude (p value = 0.000) to motivation in the VIA test. It is recommended that women of childbearing age should get a lot of information about early detection and the role of health workers and also families is very important to be able to provide information and support for women of childbearing age to do early detection checks for cervical cancer. Keywords: Knowledge, Attitude, Motivation

Abstract

Pregnant women are a vulnerable group prone to malnutrition-induced anemia. In 2023, Puskesmas Tamamaung reported a staggering 73.9% prevalence of anemia among pregnant women. Anemia in pregnancy poses risks such as maternal mortality, miscarriage, intrauterine growth retardation, and postpartum hemorrhage. To address this, tomato juice, rich in vitamin C crucial for iron absorption, is proposed as a potential solution to enhance hemoglobin levels. The objective of this quasi-experimental study is to assess the efficacy of tomato juice supplementation in increasing hemoglobin (Hb) levels among pregnant women diagnosed with anemia. A quasi-experimental study utilizing a pre-test post-test non-equivalent control group design was conducted. The study population comprised 28 second and third-trimester pregnant women with anemia registered at Puskesmas Tamamaung from February to March 2024. All 28 participants were included as the total sample. Data were collected using observation sheets and hemoglobin measurement tools. Paired t-tests and independent t-tests were employed for data analysis.Significant differences were observed in hemoglobin levels before and after tomato juice consumption among pregnant women at Puskesmas Tamamaung. Tomato juice supplementation was found to be more effective in increasing hemoglobin levels compared to iron tablet supplementation alone.Tomato juice facilitates hemoglobin synthesis by expediting the process from erythroblasts to normoblasts and reticulocytes, thereby accelerating hemoglobin formation. The administration of tomato juice effectively increases hemoglobin levels among pregnant women with anemia. This underscores the potential of tomato juice as a supplementary intervention in combating maternal anemia during pregnancy.

Abstract

Abstract: Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that occurs due to a lack of nutritional intake over a long period of time, caused by feeding that is not in accordance with the body's nutritional needs. In North Bengkulu, the number of stunted toddlers was recorded at 1,899 children, with details of 1,640 toddlers classified as short and 259 toddlers who were very short. This figure shows a significant increase in stunting cases in North Bengkulu. The purpose of the study was to determine the determinants of the incidence of stunting in toddlers. The research design used in this study was cross sectional. The research was conducted in the working area of the Kerkap Health Center. The research was conducted in May 2023. The study population was toddlers aged 24-59 months in the Kerkap Health Center working area, totaling 593 children. The sample amounted to 90 respondents selected using stratified random sampling. The research instrument used a research questionnaire. Data analysis was done univariate and bivariate. The results showed there was a relationship between LBW (p value: 0.035) and exclusive breastfeeding history (p value: 0.007) to the incidence of stunting. It is recommended to pregnant women and mothers who have toddlers to provide exclusive breastfeeding and to the Puskesmas to further optimize the socialization program for pregnant women to prevent LBW and stunting so that every family member has a good nutritional status including children, so that the stuting nutritional status that occurs in children aged 24-60 months can change and get better at a later age. Keywords: Exclusive breastfeeding, LBW, stunting.
