Abstract

Abstract

Nursing Documentation has significant roles in order to enhancing patient safety. Thus, its accuracy and completeness should perfectly perform based on the standards. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of nursing care documentation among nurses in hospitals. This study employed non-experimental descriptive quantitative research with a retrospective approach and the samples chosen was 114 medical records that met the inclusion criteria using proportional stratified random sampling technique. The research instruments used is an observation sheet for a study documenting the nursing care standards implementation by The Ministry of Health of Republic Indonesia 2005, which has been modified by adding true and false points for each indicator assessed. The data analysis employed univariate analysis which is presented in the form of a frequency’s distribution. The study results found that most of the nurses were not able to complete the records correctly by 72,8% as well as grouping the data by 55,3% in the assessment aspects. In the diagnosis and the intervention aspects, most of the nurses are able to completing the documentation perfectly. On the other aspects, the study found that nurses are not able to complete the implementation that refers to the treatment plan by 67 or 58,8%. However, it is also found that the nurses are not able to documented the evaluation refers to objective by 58 or 50,9%. On the general documentation, most of the nurses still are not able to compete the records by standardized format (95;83,3%) as well as put the initials or name clearly and date in the documentation (58;50,9%).

Abstract

Giri Emas Regional Hospital Laboratory has been applying local government retribution tariffs since 2023. With improvements in operational services and quality, along with the hospital's change in status, there is an increasing need for the implementation of competitive and strategic tariffs. Objective to identify the unit costs of routine laboratory tests using the Activity-Based Costing (ABC) method and compare them with the local government retribution tariffs in Buleleng Regency. Method: The research was conducted using a descriptive quantitative approach from secondary data on laboratory and management records on direct and indirect costs at Giri Emas Regional Hospital from November 1, 2023, to December 31, 2024. The unit cost calculations reveal that certain laboratory tests have significantly higher costs, such as direct bilirubin (IDR 177,951), triglycerides (IDR 174,955), and total bilirubin (IDR 162,541). In contrast, tests like HCG (IDR 38,972) and Widal (IDR 43,020) have the lowest unit costs. Statistically, the median unit cost at Giri Emas Regional Hospital  is higher than the local government retribution tariffs (median = 69,186 vs 44,000; U = 47, p < 0.01). Giri Emas Regional Hospital should conduct further evaluation of the differences between its unit costs and the retribution tariffs.

Abstract

Nursing care delivery models influence the continuity, quality, and outcomes of nursing care. Primary nursing and modular nursing present different approaches to responsibility distribution, care coordination, and nurse–patient interaction. However, evidence comparing their impact on nurse-related and patient-related outcomes remains limited in low- and middle-income countries. Aim to compare the effects of primary versus modular nursing methods on nurse work engagement, nurse job satisfaction, patient trust, and patient satisfaction in an inpatient setting. A cross-sectional comparative study was conducted among 60 nurses and 30 adult inpatients in a regional public hospital in Bali, Indonesia. Purposive sampling was used. Validated instruments were administered. Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES) (Cronbach’s α = 0.80–0.90), Mueller & McCloskey Satisfaction Scale (MMSS) (reliability ranges from α = 0.78–0.89), Patient Trust Scale (PTS) (reliability α > 0.85), and Patient Satisfaction with Nursing Care Quality Questionnaire (PSNCQQ) (reliability α > 0.90). Data were analyzed using Chi-square tests with α=0.05. The primary nursing group demonstrated significantly higher levels of patient trust (p=0.038), patient satisfaction (p=0.041), nurse work engagement (p=0.027), and nurse job satisfaction (p=0.016) compared with the modular nursing group. Primary nursing consistently showed higher proportions in the “high” category across all measured outcomes. Primary nursing appears more effective than modular nursing in enhancing nurse work engagement and job satisfaction, while simultaneously improving patient trust and satisfaction. Wider adoption of primary nursing may support improvements in nursing care quality within hospital settings.

Abstract

Background – Hospitals, as essential providers of healthcare services, face significant challenges in managing diverse inventories, including pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and daily operational supplies. Inefficient inventory management often leads to increased costs and resource wastage, underscoring the need for systematic approaches to enhance efficiency. Objectives – This study aimed to review the literature on the application of the Kanban method in hospital inventory management and to evaluate its potential benefits in cost reduction and waste minimization. Methods – A literature review was conducted using a replicable protocol to identify relevant peer-reviewed articles indexed in Google Scholar. The search was restricted to publications in English and Indonesian from January 2020 to January 2025. Boolean search strategies were employed with keywords including Kanban Method, hospital inventory management, cost reduction, and efficiency. Eligible articles were thematically analyzed to synthesize the findings. Results – The review highlights that the Kanban method, originally developed for manufacturing industries, can be effectively adapted to hospital settings. Its implementation demonstrates potential to optimize resource utilization, reduce operational costs, and alleviate waste production. However, challenges remain, particularly cultural resistance among healthcare staff and the need for systematic planning and organizational commitment to ensure successful adoption. Conclusion – The Kanban method offers a viable and effective approach for improving hospital inventory management. This findings offer practical insights for hospital administrators and policymakers seeking cost-effective and sustainable inventory management strategies, while also identifying gaps for future empirical research.
