Abstract

This research aims to explore semi-online learning practices as a solution to the digital divide in education in the Frontier, Outermost, and Disadvantaged (3T) regions. This research method uses qualitative research conducted at SMK N A Waingapu, East Sumba and SMP B Merauke, Papua. The data collection technique was through interviews and literature studies which were then analyzed using the interactive analysis technique of Miles and Huberman. This research's results indicate that both schools apply a semi-online learning model to support learning amid limited digital access. SMK N A Waingapu chose to implement a finite face-to-face learning system for students with a weak economy, while SMP B Merauke provided problem modules for students to work on at home. The main obstacle to online learning at the two schools is the digital divide. In addition, SMK N A Waingapu East Sumba and SMP B Merauke also implemented internal policies and took steps to maintain the effectiveness of learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. These steps are the implementation of Circular Letter Number 4 of 2020 concerning the Implementation of Education Policies in the Emergency Period for the Spread of Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19).

Abstract

Abstract

A common social trend is the rise in single-parent families, where children are primarily raised by one parent—either the father or the mother. In Indonesia, single mothers, more prevalent than single fathers, often face bad stigma from society. The research then delves into the dual role of single mothers depicted in the film Ibu Ora Sare using Charles S. Peirce's semiotic analysis. The research findings reveal that single mothers defy the negative stereotypes imposed by society. In the film, Ibu Ora Sare, Gogon’s mother also juggles earning a livelihood, taking Gogon to school, and doing tasks which typically associated with fathers. Single mothers juggling multiple roles should not face unwarranted criticism as they adeptly fulfill their responsibilities—also, the role of the father is already replaced. The research findings provide insights into single mothers' dual responsibilities. Future studies are encouraged to explore deeper feminism's theoretical foundations in this context.

Abstract

The feminist movement has had a positive impact on various industries, including the media and advertising sectors. When feminist values are applied in advertising, it is referred to as femvertising, which aims to empower women. This study aimed to examine femvertising practices in Indonesia and determine whether they have truly empowered women. The research used a qualitative descriptive method, with literature study as the main research approach. The research data was collected from books, news, and previous studies, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman's analytical techniques. The findings of the study show that femvertising in Indonesia has implemented five key pillars, including the utilization of diverse female talent, messaging that promotes female empowerment, pushing gender-norm boundaries, downplaying sexuality, and portraying women authentically. Therefore, femvertising in Indonesia has successfully empowered women, though there are still areas for improvement, such as avoiding perpetuating unrealistic standards. The study is limited by the number of previous studies used as the main source of literature review. Further research is recommended to expand and add research sources to provide a more comprehensive view of femvertising practices.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the meaning of Papuan cultural identity in Noken Rahim Kedua documentary perceived by Papuan women. Employing the phenomenological method and Stuart Hall's encoding-decoding theory, this research explores the encoding process by filmmakers and the decoding process by Papuan women through in-depth interviews. Overall, the four Papuan women are in a negotiating reading. They did not simply accept the meaning constructed by the filmmaker. Lacking women's involvement in the documentary, led them to perceive that the film does not fully represent the voice of Papuan women.  Several dominant factors that influence the reception, including 1) Ethnic origin and cultural knowledge; 2) Family background; and 3) Surroundings or the environment. Regarding the values believed by the Papuan women, two significant findings emerged. First, all Papuan women viewers believed that gender equality is fundamental; however, one participant disagreed with the notion that men should not work.  Second, all participants, the Papuan women, believed that culture should be preserved, and they are proud of it because it is an identity marker. However, one of the participants stated that culture does not need to be maintained if it is considered burdensome or disadvantageous. Future researchers are encouraged to explore ethnic diversity, and for future documentary filmmakers, multiple perspectives of Papuan identity must be incorporated.

Abstract

As the result of a documentary film that highlights the meaning of Noken for the Papuan tribe, "Noken Rahim Kedua" experienced many challenges, both in the production, distribution and exhibition processes. This research aims to determine the challenges faced in the production, distribution and exhibition process of "Noken Rahim" Kedua documentary film. This research is a qualitative descriptive research with a case study research method that focuses on in-depth data collection interviews. In addition, the data analysis process in this research is using the Miles and Huberman model, which divided by three stages: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The research results show three important points. First, the production process of this film experienced various limitations, both in terms of time, costs, and personnel in the shooting process. Second, the distribution process of this film experienced many challenges because it could not be screened en masse because it was considered sensitive so there needed to be discussion during the screening. Third, the exhibition process is carried out through film festivals and screenings in alternative screening rooms. Keywords: documentary; film; film production; noken rahim kedua
