Abstract

The worldwide pandemic has compelled the teaching and learning process to be conducted entirely online. Having expertise in teaching in a face-to-face setting does not ensure success in dealing with students’ misbehavior in synchronous online classrooms. The behavior issues that arose during virtual learning have increased both teachers’ and students’ stress levels and disrupted the flow of the lessons. The purpose of this paper was to collect examples of students’ misbehavior and the strategies employed by the teachers to address them in an online class. A phenomenology case study was used to study the participants’ experience. An online survey was used to ask open-ended and closed-ended questions, with an interview following to discuss the results in more significant detail. This study enlisted the help of twenty-two English teachers who taught synchronous online classes. The findings offered some practical solutions for dealing with behavior issues in online learning and suggestions for further research.

Abstract

Teacher development (TD) has become an essential pathway for teachers to develop themselves and their teaching, and to enhance their students’ achievement. This study examines a relatively new area that has emerged from the growing body of teacher development literature. It focuses on a teacher’s perceptions and beliefs regarding teacher development values, specifically in five sub-components: teacher development as a moral process; teacher research values; career development values; marginality and advocacy values; and teacher education values in English language teaching. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to explore the participants’ views on, and experiences of, the topics. The data analysis employed an interactive model consisting of data collection, display, condensation, and conclusion-drawing. The results indicate that the teacher undergoes specific teaching and learning processes within each component, contributing to his belief in teacher development. This study also recommends that solid communication and collaboration among teachers, students, and officials lead to a better quality of education.

Abstract

Abstract: Balancing the dual roles of being a student and a mother presents unique challenges, particularly for graduate students who face demanding academic and personal responsibilities. This study investigated the lived experiences of graduate student mothers, focusing on the challenges they faced and the strategies they employed to navigate their dual roles. The purpose of this study was to gain insight into the difficulties that graduate student mothers face and their coping strategies for ‘balancing’ academic and parenting responsibilities. This study used a narrative-based case study as the research design, recruiting three graduate student mothers from three different universities. Personal narrative and semi structured interviews were used to gather data to provide a more in-depth understanding of the context. This study was intended to shed more light on the challenges that graduate student mothers encounter, with the hope that others interested in pursuing higher studies can learn from the participants' stories and consider their experiences before making the "big commitment" of entering academia. It was also hoped that other stakeholders, such as faculty staff and policymakers, would be able to generate a place for more "mother-friendly" programs.
