Abstract

Islamic Religious Education in public schools often holds a less strategic position because learning practices are still dominated by conventional, lecture-based methods that are one-directional, monotonous, minimally interactive, and unable to provide meaningful learning experiences. Several studies report that the lecture method produces only about 11% learning meaningfulness, which contributes to low motivation, limited student engagement, and weak relevance between instructional content and students’ real-life contexts. This situation contrasts with the principles of Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL), which emphasize connecting learning materials with everyday life as a basis for knowledge construction. This study aims to describe the concept, characteristics, and implementation of the CTL learning model in Islamic Religious Education as a more participatory and meaningful alternative approach. The research employed a qualitative method through a literature review. The findings indicate that CTL positions students as active learners through activities of discovering, connecting, and reflecting on knowledge in real-world contexts. The application of CTL in PAI not only strengthens the cognitive domain but also develops students’ affective, social, and moral domains. These results suggest that CTL has strong potential to enhance learning motivation and active participation, making it a strategic approach for contextual and character-oriented PAI learning.

Abstract

This article discusses the importance of Early Childhood Education (ECE) from the perspective of the Qur'an and Hadith, as well as its implementation in Muslim families. ECE focuses not only on cognitive aspects but also on moral education, faith, and worship. Through the habituation of Islamic values, good role models from parents, and positive communication, holistic education can be achieved. This study also identifies the challenges of modernization that may threaten Islamic ECE values and offers solutions to address these challenges. By integrating formal and informal educational approaches, it is hoped that future generations will grow into individuals with noble character and faith. The conclusion of this article emphasizes that the role of parents as primary educators is crucial in shaping children's character in accordance with Islamic teachings. Keywords: Early Childhood Education; Qur'an and Hadith; Islamic Values.

Abstract

This study aims to examine publication trends, dominant epistemological models, and practical implementation challenges regarding the integration of science and religion within the Islamic Education curriculum. Employing a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach based on PRISMA 2020 guidelines and PRISMA-S reporting standards, a comprehensive search was conducted on April 15, 2026, across five databases (Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, DOAJ, and SINTA) alongside manual citation searching. Out of 620 initially identified records, rigorous multi-stage screening and full-text eligibility assessment yielded 36 final selected articles published between 2016 and 2025. The findings reveal an accelerating publication trend centered on Tawhidic integration paradigms and scientific interconnectedness (Wahdatul Ulum). However, curriculum execution faces persistent field barriers, including limited teacher pedagogical competence in interdisciplinary approaches, a scarcity of integrated instructional materials, and institutional constraints. Consequently, this study highlights the necessity of shifting future research agendas toward classroom-based empirical evaluations and technology-driven instructional development to achieve sustainable science-religion integration in Islamic education.
