Abstract

Academic problems such as procrastination, learning burnout, and low student motivation have become major challenges in modern education. The urgency to understand and address these issues effectively highlights the importance of applying learning psychology theories within guidance and counseling services. This study aims to examine the utilization of learning psychology theories in addressing academic problems through a literature review of scholarly articles, academic books, and recent research reports. A qualitative approach was employed, using document analysis and thematic content analysis techniques. The findings indicate that behaviorist and cognitive theories have been partially applied, but are not yet fully integrated into practices in schools. This study offers a conceptual contribution by reinforcing theoretical approaches in academic counseling practices. The results imply the need for theory-based training for school counselors and suggest further in-depth field research to enhance practical application.

Abstract

Sexual violence is a traumatic experience that leaves long-term psychological impacts on victims, particularly in the form of negative thoughts and deep-seated guilt. Cognitive distortions, such as self-blame, often hinder the recovery process. This article aims to examine the effectiveness of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) in reducing negative thoughts and guilt among survivors of sexual violence. The study employs a literature review method, analyzing various relevant scholarly sources. Findings indicate that REBT is effective in challenging and replacing irrational beliefs with healthier and more logical thinking patterns. This approach helps survivors reconstruct a positive self-identity and alleviate emotional distress. However, its application must be adapted to the cultural context and emotional condition of the victims. The study offers practical implications for counselors in designing empathetic and evidence-based interventions for survivors of sexual violence.

Abstract

Guidance and counseling (BK) services strategically support students’ personal, social, academic, and career development, particularly in Vocational High Schools (SMK). The need for these services is becoming increasingly urgent given the complexity of challenges SMK students face during their educational journey and transition into the workforce. This study examines the implementation of BK services at SMK Negeri 1 Padang Laweh, focusing on four key aspects: program execution, student participation, service methods, and encountered obstacles. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with school counselors, the principal, and student representatives and document analysis of the school's existing BK program. The results indicate that BK services have been carried out through various activities, such as essential services, individual counseling, and classroom guidance. However, the implementation remains suboptimal due to limited student participation, a lack of varied methods, and several significant challenges, including a shortage of BK personnel, inadequate infrastructure, and students’ limited understanding of the function of BK services. These findings highlight the need to improve the quality of BK service implementation through training, strengthened policy support, and more representative facilities to ensure that BK functions can be carried out more effectively and sustainably.

Abstract

Accountability and supervision are two essential aspects in the implementation of Guidance and Counseling (GC) services in schools. Both function to ensure that all GC activities are carried out effectively, efficiently, and in accordance with professional standards. Research and literature indicate that accountability in GC includes counselors’ responsibility for program implementation, the use of resources, and the outcomes of services provided to students and stakeholders. Meanwhile, supervision serves as a control and developmental mechanism that ensures the delivery of services aligns with ethical codes and educational goals. However, the implementation of accountability and supervision in the field still faces various challenges, such as low awareness of their importance, lack of structured supervision, and limited supporting facilities. To address these issues, it is necessary to strengthen counselors’ competencies, improve data-based monitoring systems, and enhance sustainable institutional support. By consistently applying the principles of accountability and supervision, GC services in schools can become more transparent, professional, and positively impactful on students’ development.
