Abstract

This study aims to explore the implementation of tajweed instruction through talaqqi and halaqah methods in the natural educational setting of Pondok Pesantren Nurul Hidayah Alal Ardhi. Using a qualitative approach with a case study and document analysis design, the research investigates the instructional dynamics of Quranic reading practices. Data were collected through field observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using Miles and Hubermans interactive model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that talaqqi and halaqah methods not only serve as tools to preserve traditional sanad-based Quranic education but also prove effective in improving students reading accuracy and understanding of tajweed. However, their effectiveness is influenced by learners initial abilities, the intensity of teacher guidance, and contextual implementation factors. While the methods are still widely favored, the study recommends the development of preparatory tajweed programs and enhanced teacher involvement to optimize outcomes. The success of tajweed instruction depends not only on tradition but also on its adaptability to learners real educational needs.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation, effectiveness, and challenges of the sorogan method in teaching classical Islamic texts (kitab kuning) at Pondok Pesantren Nurul Hidayah Al-Khidmah. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings reveal that the sorogan method is structured into two instructional levels: the basic level for children and the advanced level for adult learners. At the basic level, students rely on teacher guidance, while at the advanced level, learners demonstrate autonomy in reading and translating unvowelled classical texts. The method has proven effective in enhancing students’ reading skills through personalized instruction and direct teacher-student interaction. However, several challenges persist, including limited instructional time, inconsistent teacher commitment, and insufficient Qur’anic literacy among novice students. To address these issues, the pesantren has introduced Qur’anic literacy programs and strengthened dormitory-based instructional supervision. The key contribution of this study lies in reaffirming the pedagogical relevance of the traditional sorogan method within the framework of modern, learner-centered education. The results are expected to inform educators, pesantren administrators, and policymakers in designing more adaptive, effective, and sustainable strategies for teaching classical Islamic texts in contemporary educational settings.

Abstract

Islamic Cultural History (Sejarah Kebudayaan Islam/SKI) is a fundamental subject within the Islamic Religious Education curriculum at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) level, yet it is frequently perceived by students as monotonous and difficult due to its heavy emphasis on memorization and limited pedagogical variety. This study aims to examine the instructional strategies employed by Islamic Education teachers at MI Mathla’ul Huda Rancagong, with a particular focus on the application of mind mapping and timeline techniques. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive methodology, data were collected through interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis involving purposively selected participants. The findings indicate that mind mapping facilitates visual organization of complex historical concepts, improves memory retention, and promotes critical thinking, creativity, and student engagement. Meanwhile, the use of timelines enhances students’ chronological thinking and their ability to comprehend historical sequences and causal relationships. These strategies are consistent with both constructivist and humanistic learning theories, positioning students as active participants in the learning process. The integration of visual-based instructional tools not only improves students’ academic outcomes but also fosters more meaningful and engaging learning experiences. This study contributes to pedagogical innovation in Islamic education by offering practical recommendations for educators, school administrators, and policymakers. It also suggests avenues for future research focusing on the integration of multiple visual learning strategies, application across different educational levels, and exploration in diverse sociocultural contexts
