Abstract

The development of information technology has driven culinary business operators to adapt through digital transformation. This study aims to describe the implementation of digital transformation in the operational processes of online-based culinary businesses in Medan City. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were obtained through in-depth interviews and direct observations of five online culinary business owners. The results indicate that these businesses utilize various digital platforms such as GoFood, GrabFood, ShopeeFood, WhatsApp Business, and social media for daily operations, promotions, and customer services. Digital transformation has proven to improve operational efficiency and expand market reach, although it still faces challenges such as limited digital literacy and software costs. This study recommends the need for digital literacy training, strengthening of internet infrastructure, the development of local digital platforms, and further research on the impact of digital transformation on the performance of online culinary businesses.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has significantly transformed lifestyles, including those of students at the State Islamic University of North Sumatra (UINSU), particularly through entertainment platforms such as TikTok and Netflix. This study aims to analyze the impact of these platforms on students' lifestyles using a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through interviews and a Google Form questionnaire utilizing a Likert scale, with responses from 30 participants. Findings show that 73.3% of students actively use TikTok daily for 2–5 hours, while 26.7% actively use Netflix, often engaging in binge-watching. Around 70% reported experiencing disrupted sleep patterns due to late-night usage, and 63.3% preferred digital entertainment over face-to-face social interactions. Furthermore, 56.7% admitted to becoming more impulsive in their shopping behavior after exposure to promotional content and influencer-driven lifestyles. Overall, 83.3% of respondents acknowledged direct impacts from using TikTok and/or Netflix, including sleep disturbances, reduced social interaction, or increased consumerist behavior. These findings indicate a shift in students' preferences toward instant, individualistic entertainment, highlighting the influence of digital platforms in reshaping how students manage their time, maintain social relationships, and make everyday consumption decisions.

Abstract

This study examines the contribution of the thoughts of three important figures in modern Islamic economics, namely Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr, Ibrahim Umar Vadillo, and M. Umer Chapra. Using a qualitative approach through literature study, this research critically analyzes their works and ideas. The results of the study show that the three of them built three main pillars of the contemporary Islamic economic paradigm. The first pillar is normative-ethical which is asserted by al-Sadr, emphasizing the value of justice and ethics. The second pillar is the structural-monetary of Vadillo, who proposes a gold dinar and silver dirham-based monetary system for economic stability. The third pillar is Chapra's maqashid-policy, which emphasizes the application of sharia's maqashid principles to realize social welfare and economic justice. These three pillars complement each other in forming the foundation of an integral, applicable and relevant Islamic economy to face global challenges. This research makes an important contribution in formulating an adaptive and sharia-based Islamic economic framework.
