Abstract

Fish hybridization is the process of crossing two different fish species to produce offspring that have characteristics of both parents. The main purpose of hybridization is usually to combine superior traits from both species, such as faster growth, disease resistance, or improved meat quality. The experimental design used in this study was a completely randomized design (CRD) with 2 treatments and each treatment consisted of 3 replicates. The treatments were as follows: P1 = Koi X Koi Fish Hatchery (control), P2 = Koi X Kaviat Fish Hatchery. The results showed that the pH value in borehole water quality was 7.89 with Kohaku broodstock producing fecundity of 640 eggs, obtained an average Fertilization Rate (FR) of 17.29% resulting from the average of each egg sample calculation. The highest number of fertilized eggs was found in the PIU1 treatment which was 1470 eggs and the average Hatching Rate (HR) was 49.35%. The conclusion of this study is that hybridization between Koi and Kaviat fish can produce good potential performance based on water quality that can be maintained well with test parameters seen from fecundity, FR, HR, Length Growth, and good Survival Rate (SR).  Superior fecundity and quality in the hybridization process between koi and caviat fish can occur well if several environmental factors such as temperature and pH are still on an optimal scale.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of different types of feed, namely natural the growth and color brightness of GloFish Starfire Red. Achieving optimal color brightness and growth is essential in ornamental fish cultivation, as these factors directly impact the marketability and economic value of the fish. The research employed a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments each replicated three times to ensure the validity of results. The parameters measured in this study included absolute weight growth, absolute length increase, and brightness in color. Color brightness was analyzed using a digital visual comparison tool to ensure objective measurement. The findings revealed that natural feed significantly enhanced both weight and length growth when compared to artificial feed. Furthermore, fish that were fed with Chironomidae exhibited a more pronounced improvement in color brightness than those subjected to other treatments. These results suggest that specific types of natural feed may offer superior benefits over artificial feed in promoting both aesthetic and physical development in ornamental fish like Glofish Starfire Red.

Abstract

The growth of Nirwana tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) is strongly influenced by feed and environmental conditions in aquaculture systems. In Indonesia, tilapia productivity is often constrained by feed efficiency and fluctuating water quality. Natural feed such as bloodworms (Chironomus sp.) contains high protein levels that support length growth, while pellets provide complete nutrients for weight gain. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of bloodworms, pellets, and their combination on the growth performance of Nirwana tilapia fingerlings, as well as on water quality (temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, and ammonia). A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was applied with three treatments: A (15% bloodworms), B (5% pellets), and C (a combination of 7.5% bloodworms + 2.5% pellets), each with four replications. The fingerlings measured 3–4 cm and were approximately two months old, reared over a period of 50 days. The results showed that all treatments led to increases in weight and length; however, based on analysis of variance (ANOVA), there were no significant differences (p > 0.05) in all growth parameters: weight gain (2.20–2.22 g), length gain (1.32–1.48 cm), specific growth rate (2.41–2.66%/day), daily weight gain (2.73–2.85%/day), and daily length growth (0.0196–0.0210 cm/day). Descriptively, treatment B yielded the highest weight, while treatment A had the highest daily length growth. Water quality remained within optimal ranges (25.5°C temperature, pH 8.2–8.3, DO 4.5–4.7 mg/L, ammonia 0.00–0.01 mg/L). Bloodworms were more effective in stimulating length growth, whereas the feed combination was more efficient in increasing body weight. This study contributes to the development of alternative feed formulations and provides practical recommendations to enhance aquaculture productivity efficiently, sustainably, and in an environmentally friendly manner.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the potential for hybridisation between female koi (Cyprinus rubrofuscus) and male kapiat (Barbonymus schwanenfeldii) through artificial spawning. The study was conducted at Kampar Ornamental Fish, Kampar District, Riau Province. The method used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two treatments: P1 (koi × koi) as the control, and P2 (koi × kapiat) as the hybrid treatment, each with three replicates. The parameters observed included fecundity, fertilisation rate (FR), hatching rate (HR), absolute length growth, and survival rate (SR). The results showed that hybridisation produced promising performance in terms of FR (21.99%), HR (55.02%), and SR (41.6%). In conclusion, hybridisation between koi and kapiat fish has the potential to produce superior varieties, although attention must be paid to environmental factors such as temperature and pH
