Abstract

The cultural shift of Bengkulu society in the transformation of Besurek batik arabic letter motifs. Besurek Batik is a Bengkulu cultural heritage that is rich in history and aesthetics. The uniqueness of this batik lies in the use of Arabic letter motifs, which reflect the acculturation of local culture with Islamic influences. This research aims to examine the cultural shift in Bengkulu society in the transformation of Arabic letter motifs on Besurek Batik. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a case study approach, through interviews and observation. The research results show that changes in Besurek Batik motifs reflect changes in the values and cultural identity of the people of Bengkulu, which are influenced by globalization, modernization and socio-economic changes. The Arabic letter motifs on Besurek Batik still maintain traditional values while adapting to contemporary trends, making Besurek Batik a medium that connects past and present, as well as local and global.

Abstract

Sampul majalah berfungsi sebagai media komunikasi visualyang tidak hanya informatif tetapi juga menyampaikan kritik sosialmelalui simbol dan bahasa visual. Penelitian ini meneliti perancopywriting dalam pembentukan pesan komunikasi visual. Untukmemahami tanda, simbol, dan makna pada elemen teks dan visual,metode kualitatif deskriptif digunakan dengan analisis semiotikaRoland Barthes. Analisis dilakukan melalui tahap identifikasielemen visual dan teks pada sampul majalah, dilanjutkan denganklasifikasi tanda berdasarkan aspek denotasi, konotasi, dan mitos,kemudian diakhiri dengan interpretasi makna yang terbentuk darihubungan antar elemen visual dan copywriting. Data diperoleh melalui dokumentasi sampul majalah serta penelitian literaturtentang desain komunikasi visual dan copywriting. Hasil penelitianmenunjukkan bahwa copywriting, yang terdiri dari permainan katadalam judul, memiliki kemampuan untuk membangun pesan politikyang satir. Tata letak mengarahkan pembaca ke pesan utama,ilustrasi karikatur mendukung nuansa kritis, dan tipografimenegaskan tone kritis. Secara keseluruhan, komponen inimembentuk strategi retoris yang kuat yang membuat komunikasivisual lebih menarik dan bermakna. Kesimpulannya, copywritingsangat penting dalam desain komunikasi visual untukmenyampaikan informasi dan membangun opini publik secara kritisdan estetis.

Abstract

Batik besurek is an Indonesian intangible cultural heritage from Bengkulu Province with Arabic Malay calligraphy motifs. Initially, this cloth contained sacred philosophical-religious meanings and was used in traditional contexts. This study analyzes Batik besurek in the context of modern commercialization, which is motivated by the tension between the preservation of cultural heritage and market demands that risk eroding these fundamental values. The research aims to identify forms of shifting symbolic meanings, analyze driving factors, and reinterpret symbolic constructions among producers and consumers. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with artisans, designers, and business actors, and documentation studies. Data analysis used Roland Barthes' semiotics to describe the denotative, connotative, and mythical meanings of commercial Batik besurek products. The results show a shift in meaning from sacred values ​​to aesthetic and economic values. Driving factors include market pressures, digital marketing strategies, and designers' interpretations of tradition. The study's conclusion underscores that commercialization has the potential to degrade the cultural meaning of Batik besurek despite its positive economic impact. These findings provide important input for stakeholders in formulating sustainable conservation strategies.

Abstract

Pelecehan seksual merupakan permasalahan sosial yangkerap terjadi di ruang publik, termasuk transportasi umum sepertikereta api. Menanggapi isu tersebut, PT Kereta Api Indonesia(Persero) meluncurkan kampanye visual bertajuk “STOP!Kekerasan Seksual di Transportasi Umum!” untuk menciptakanlingkungan perjalanan yang aman dan nyaman. Penelitian inibertujuan menganalisis peran desain grafis sebagai mediakomunikasi sosial serta menilai efektivitas visual poster dalammembangun kesadaran publik. Metode yang digunakan adalahanalisis visual dengan pendekatan studi kasus yang berfokus padatipografi, warna, ilustrasi, dan konstruksi pesan. Hasil penelitianmenunjukkan bahwa penggunaan tipografi sans-serif tebalmeningkatkan keterbacaan dan penegasan pesan, sedangkanpemilihan warna yang bermakna psikologis memperkuat dampakemosional. Ilustrasi humanis mendukung kejelasan dan dayapersuasif pesan. Secara keseluruhan, desain poster mampumenyampaikan pesan secara tegas dan komunikatif. Penelitian ini berkontribusi pada pengembangan kajian desain komunikasi visual, khususnya dalam analisis efektivitas elemen visual pada kampanyesosial preventif di ruang publik transportas

Abstract

Tokopedia dan Duolingo adalah dua platform digital yangbergerak di bidang e-commerce dan pembelajaran bahasa, namunmemiliki logo dengan kemiripan visual, seperti warna hijaudominan dan karakter ilustratif bermata besar. Kemiripan iniberpotensi menimbulkan kesalahan persepsi visual (visualmisperception), di mana audiens salah menafsirkan stimulus visualsehingga memengaruhi pengenalan identitas merek. Penelitian inimenggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan analisisdeskriptif melalui studi pustaka dan dokumentasi logo. Analisisdilakukan berdasarkan teori persepsi visual dan prinsip Gestalt,seperti kesamaan (similarity), kesatuan (unity), dan kesederhanaan(simplicity). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menganalisis kesalahanpersepsi visual akibat kemiripan elemen desain logo Tokopedia danDuolingo serta dampaknya terhadap identitas merek (brand identity). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kesamaan elemen visual dapat memicu pengelompokan persepsi audiens,menimbulkan kebingungan dalam membedakan merek, danmemengaruhi kejelasan identitas. Meskipun kedua platformmemiliki fungsi berbeda, kemiripan visual tetap memengaruhipersepsi audiens jika tidak diimbangi strategi diferensiasi visual.Oleh karena itu, pemahaman persepsi visual dan penerapan prinsipGestalt penting dalam perancangan logo untuk meminimalkankesalahan persepsi dan memperkuat identitas merek di ranah digital

Abstract

Animation can be briefly described as an attempt to give the illusion of life, such as movement, to inanimate objects by composing the objects into a series of images that are not significantly different from each other, thus producing the illusion of smooth movement. In the past, animation can be only created by using the flip book method, the method is basically playing many images in a short set amount of time so that the images in the book appeared to look like they’re moving. However, as time has progressed, many other animation methods have arrived, for example, CGI and 3D. Regardless of the method that is used to create animation, animation can be a medium to express issues within our society for both young and adult audiences. Takopi’s Original Sin, an animated series from Japan that consist of six episodes, is one of the example on how animation is used for communication media about social issues within our society by visual. The research method I used is literature review, applying reliable statements from various journals and books to help write my thoughts. The conclusion obtained is that animation is very much a good medium for conveying things like issues within our society because of its flexibility to be combined with other artistic media, thus helping the message that the author wanted to easily reach the audiences, and a good storytelling will made an impact to those who read/watch it even though they had finished the story till the end.
