Abstract

Early childhood is at a golden developmental period, where curiosity and the ability to learn through experience are very high. Therefore, it is important to develop science skills through experiment-based learning and environmental exploration. This study aims to look at the development of children's science skills, assess the extent of children's understanding of science and technology concepts, and identify the benefits of experimental activities. The research method used was qualitative, with participatory observation techniques, interviews, and documentation of 29 children at IT Al-Kahfi Kindergarten. Data were analyzed by data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that experimental activities such as rainbow bridges, color rain, and rocket launches are able to increase children's interest in learning, curiosity, understanding of scientific concepts, and critical thinking skills. In addition, experiments also train motor skills and cooperation between children. The implementation of science and technology learning at an early age is proven to be effective in supporting children's overall cognitive and social development.

Abstract

Stunting is a serious issue that affects early childhood development and demands educators' attention in providing appropriate preventive education. Ironically, the limited availability of effective educational media for stunting prevention hinders the learning process. This study aims to develop and evaluate the feasibility of an educational video based on movement and song activities as a preventive effort against stunting in early childhood. This research employed a research and development (R&D) design involving 28 children as subjects. Data were collected through observation and structured interviews, and analyzed using qualitative descriptive methods. The findings indicate that the developed educational video effectively conveys health messages in an engaging and child-friendly manner. The content covers healthy living habits, nutritious food consumption, and regular sleep patterns, all demonstrated through songs and movements. Both children and teachers showed high enthusiasm after using the media consistently for two weeks. The study concludes that movement and song based educational videos are appropriate as a medium for stunting prevention education in early childhood. The implications of this study highlight the importance of developing creative, enjoyable, and behavior-oriented learning media to foster healthy habits from an early age. Further development is recommended to ensure the sustainability and broader applicability of this media in various educational contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the concentration ability of children aged 5–6 years through actively and engagingly designed learning activities at TK Islam Terpadu Robbani Indralaya. Based on the initial observations, the children’s letter-recognition skills were still relatively low at 50%, as indicated by their lack of focus during learning activities, resulting in their inability to meet the Early Childhood Development Achievement Standards (STTPA).This research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) using the Kemmis and McTaggart model, conducted in two cycles consisting of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 10 children aged 5–6 years. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, while data analysis was carried out descriptively. The results of the study show an improvement in children’s concentration ability in each cycle. The average level of mastery of concentration skills during the pre-action stage was 43.44%, increasing to 63.50% in Cycle I, and showing a more significant increase in Cycle II with an average of 80.66%. This improvement indicates that the implemented actions successfully helped the children enhance their focus and attention throughout the learning process.

Abstract

The development of early literacy in children aged 5–6 years is a crucial stage in which children begin to build the foundation for reading and writing. At this age, children generally achieve several milestones such as recognizing alphabet letters, understanding phonemic relationships (sounds and symbols), reading simple words, and writing their own names. Children who are involved in puzzle games tend to understand letter symbols more easily and are able to remember them in an enjoyable learning context. The type of research used in this study was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The initial observation showed that 5 children (33.33%) were still in the category of Beginning to Develop, 1 child (6.66%) was in the category of Developing as Expected, and 3 children (20%) were in the category of Developing Very Well. After the implementation of the first cycle, there was an improvement in children's literacy skills. Three children (20%) were categorized as Beginning to Develop, five children (33.33%) were categorized as Developing as Expected, and three children (20%) were categorized as Developing Very Well.Based on these results, it can be concluded that although there was an improvement in children's literacy skills in the first cycle, the results had not yet reached the predetermined success indicators. Therefore, the researcher continued to the second cycle to improve the shortcomings found in the previous stage in order to obtain more optimal results. The results of the second cycle showed a significant improvement in children's literacy skills through the use of letter puzzle media. At this stage, eight children (53.33%) were in the category of Developing as Expected and seven children (46.66%) were in the category of Developing Very Well. Therefore, the letter puzzle media was considered appropriate and effective to be used as an innovative learning strategy in developing early literacy skills of young children at TK Kartika II-1 Palembang.
