Abstract

Abstract Background. HIV/AIDS remains one of the most significant global health challenges, particularly in developing regions such as Africa and Southeast Asia. Despite significant advances in treatment and prevention, the epidemic continues to be fueled by complex interactions between mental health, socio-economic, cultural, and behavioral factors. Objective: The objective of this study is to explore and analyze the various factors that contribute to the ongoing spread of HIV/AIDS, with a specific focus on the role of mental health, socio-economic status, and cultural practices. Method. This study employed a comprehensive literature review approach, analyzing data from peer-reviewed journals, WHO reports, and national health statistics. The review included articles published between 2019 and 2024, sourced from databases such as PubMed and Google Scholar, with a focus on studies that address the intersection of mental health and HIV, as well as the socio- cultural dynamics influencing the epidemic. Discussion. The results indicate that poor mental health significantly elevates the risk of engaging in high- risk behaviors associated with HIV transmission. Additionally, socio- economic disparities and cultural practices, such as stigma and discrimination, continue to exacerbate the prevalence of HIV, particularly in vulnerable populations. Conclusion: The findings underscore the critical need for integrating mental health services into HIV prevention and treatment programs. Furthermore, addressing the socio-cultural determinants of health is essential for reducing the global burden of HIV/AIDS and achieving more effective control of the epidemic.

Abstract

Introduction: Early diagnosis infection in diabetic foot patients remains challenging. Several biomarkers have been used as a diagnostic tool, including procalcitonin. However, the performance of this examination is still questioning. Aim: This evidence-based case report aims to assess the performance of procalcitonin level to distinguish between infected and non-infected diabetic foot. Method: Literature searching was performed in Medline, Cochrane, EBSCO, Scopus, and also hand searching. Only articles with cuts off outcome were included. Result: Patients with diabetic ulcer infection has a higher procalcitonin level compare with those who did not have a disease. Several cuts off provide to diagnose infection in the diabetic ulcer. Uzun et al. found 0.08 and 0.1 as a cut off which performed good specificity and sensitivity. Conclusion: Procalcitonin helps us to distinguish non-infected and infected diabetic ulcers. The best cut-off value was 0.5 with the 54 % sensitivity and 100 % specificity.

Abstract

Abstact Background: Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is a complex gastrointestinal disorder affecting millions of people. This review discusses the dynamic mechanisms, pathophysiology, pharmacotherapy management, and psychosocial and lifestyle factors influencing GERD. The disease is characterized by acid reflux into the esophagus, causing symptoms such as chest pain, regurgitation, and difficulty swallowing. The management of GERD involves pharmacological therapy and lifestyle modifications. Psychosocial factors such as stress and anxiety exacerbate the symptoms. This review provides a comprehensive overview of GERD to assist healthcare professionals in delivering optimal care. Method: This study employed a literature review method to analyze various data related to Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). Information was collected from several scientific databases, including Google Scholar, PubMed, Scopus, and ScienceDirect, using keywords relevant to the topic of GERD. Only articles meeting the inclusion criteria, such as being published within the last five years, providing an in-depth discussion on GERD, and written in English or Indonesian, were included in the review. Result: Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is a complex condition involving physiological, psychosocial, and lifestyle mechanisms. Its management requires a holistic approach that includes pharmacological therapy, lifestyle modifications, and stress management to reduce symptoms and improve patients' quality of life. Conclusion: Overall, Its management requires a holistic approach involving pharmacological therapy, lifestyle modifications, and stress management to alleviate symptoms and improve patients' quality of life. Psychosocial factors like stress and anxiety exacerbate symptoms, making it crucial to consider these aspects in treatment. By understanding the mechanisms, pathophysiology, and the impact of lifestyle factors on GERD, optimal care can be tailored to provide the greatest benefit to patients.

Abstract

Background. Dysmenorrhea for many women is a burden in their lives. The high prevalence of dysmenorrhea among adolescents often receives less attention from the medical world because many consider that this dysmenorrhea is a normal thing even though doing activities during menstrual pain that comes every month makes women affected by dysmenorrhea feel disadvantaged because they cannot carry out their activities properly as usual. Taking time off is an option that helps relieve women who suffer from dysmenorrhea so that they can rest. In addition, sufferers usually do hot compresses and aromatherapy to relieve the pain. However, dysmenorrhea itself has not been confirmed so the treatment is still being developed today. Method. The journals were used by selecting a topic, then determining keywords to search for journals in English and conducting searches using several websites such as Google Scholar, Elsevier, and Taylor and Francis. Discussion. Considering that the prevalence of dysmenorrhea is quite high, it is really affecting a good percentage of young females, university students, through their regular academic, social, and psychological activities. Several underlying factors are there that determine its intensity, including hormonal imbalance, psychologic issues, endometriosis and adenomyosis, female genital mutilation, etc., cultural, and religious practices aggravating the intensity of menstrual pain. Yet, despite its impact, access to healthcare for many women is impeded by either financial constraints, lack of awareness, or societal normalization of pain, as was shown in Korea, where the utilization of healthcare for dysmenorrhea is poor. Further, the condition has several long-term implications, including possible implications for brain health and heightened levels of stress associated with premenstrual syndrome. Effective treatments include Dienogest and uterine artery embolization, which have relieved symptoms and improved quality of life, thus indicating the need for greater awareness, better access to care, and comprehensive management strategies. Conclusion. Dysmenorrhea is a disease that affects physically and mentally because it is usually caused by the menstrual period in every woman. Therefore, it is necessary to provide physical and mental treatment due to dysmenorrhea.

Abstract

Background : Stroke is one of the common caused of death in the world. Lifestyle modification is to prevent the stroke occurred and to reduce the risk of new stroke events. Method: method used is a literature review through international journals. Discussion : This literature review shows that there is a poor correlation between increased knowledge about stroke and changes in lifestyle behavior. Modification of risk factors is very important for primary and secondary stroke prevention. Long-term lifestyle modification is difficult to maintain and require comprehensive and individualized intervention. Increasing the understanding of stroke risk will prevent a significant number of strokes before they lead to death and disability. In this way, two major strategies could be applied: the high-risk strategy and the mass (population-based)strategy. The high-risk one deals with individuals with a higher risk of developing stroke and includes lifestyle changes (i.e., reduced salt and alcohol intake, physical activity, weight loss, smoking cessation, etc.) and pharmacological interventions (i.e BP and lipid lowering agents, antiplatelet medications, etc.). Conclusion: Lifestyle modifications should address not single but multiple cardiovascular risk factors to effectively reduce the risk of stroke. Lifestyle modifications on a personal level should include adequate physical activity, a healthy diet, the cessation of smoking and alcohol consumption, and stress reduction. Physical activities should be performed in a healthy environment without air pollution.
