Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of attack by Macaca hecki on cultivated plants in Makarti Jaya Village, Pohuwato, Gorontalo. Agriculture is the main source of income for the local community, but the presence of Macaca hecki can threaten agricultural yields. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative, with data collected through direct observation and interviews with farmers experiencing the attacks. The results indicate that corn (Zea mays) is the most consumed plant by Macaca hecki, followed by cocoa (Theobroma cacao) and several other types of fruit such as bananas and papayas. The high consumption rates of these cultivated plants negatively impact agricultural results, causing significant economic losses for farmers. Therefore, it is important to understand the attack patterns and the factors influencing the behavior of Macaca hecki. This research recommends the need for more effective protection strategies, such as the placement of physical barriers and diversification of plant types. Thus, it is hoped that this study can contribute to the management of conflicts between wildlife and agriculture, as well as enhance the economic sustainability of farming communities.

Abstract

The rapid growth of the city in Pulubala Urban Village, Gorontalo City, has resulted in pressure on the environment and the use of green open space (RTH). This study aims to analyse the use of green spaces in the residential area of Pulubala Village, which is inhabited by various ethnic groups. The method applied was descriptive qualitative, with data collection through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research findings indicate that RTH in Kelurahan Pulubala, covering an area of 0.50 Ha, consists of two categories, namely RTH Settlement Area and Smart Park. The benefits of RTH include play areas for children, social activities, and improved environmental quality. However, problems such as lack of space, poor condition, and environmental pollution threaten the sustainability of RTH. To optimise the utilisation of green spaces, better planning, increased public awareness, and the development of attractive facilities are needed. This research is expected to contribute to the preservation and development of green open spaces in urban areas.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the erosion hazard level in the Bone-Gorontalo River Basin (DAS) using the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) for the years 2013 and 2023. The data utilized in this study is secondary, consisting of official documents, scientific articles, and information from statistical agencies. A qualitative descriptive research method is applied to provide an in-depth overview of changes in soil erosion conditions. The analysis results show that the area classified as very light (Class I) increased from 3,873.84 hectares in 2013 to 5,404.92 hectares in 2023, reflecting an improvement in soil conditions. Although there was an increase in the light category (Class II), areas in the moderate (Class III) and heavy (Class IV) categories also saw an increase, indicating a need for further intervention. The total annual erosivity decreased from 1,180.70 to 766.65, indicating a positive response to climate change and improved land management. This study recommends more intensive conservation actions to reduce erosion risks, especially in areas that remain vulnerable.

Abstract

Deforestation in Indonesia's hilly regions has a significant impact on increasing the rate of erosion and sedimentation. This study aims to systematically examine the effects of deforestation on erosion and sedimentation processes and evaluate conservation approaches used to mitigate these impacts. The method employed is a literature review of various relevant national and international studies, focusing on tropical upland areas in Indonesia. The analysis reveals that the conversion of forests into agricultural land, plantations, and settlements results in the loss of vegetative cover, which plays a critical role in stabilizing soil particles and regulating surface runoff. The resulting impacts include increased erosion rates, soil structure degradation, and elevated sedimentation in water bodies, which deteriorate water quality, reduce reservoir capacity, and harm aquatic ecosystems such as coral reefs and mangrove forests. Effective conservation approaches include vegetative techniques such as reforestation and agroforestry, as well as mechanical techniques such as terracing and check dams. The main recommendation from this review is the need for integrated conservation policies, community participation, and the mapping of vulnerable areas to achieve sustainable and adaptive land management in Indonesia’s hilly regions.

Abstract

This study analyzes integrated modeling for renewable energy development in Gorontalo Province, Indonesia, focusing on enhancing sustainable energy systems. The projection for renewable energy usage is expected to reach 23% by 2025. This research identifies various challenges, including dependence on fossil fuels and energy shortages due to inadequate infrastructure. The study employs a quantitative descriptive approach and dynamic system modeling to evaluate the potential of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and biomass. The findings indicate that strategic interventions can significantly increase the penetration of renewable energy from 1-2% to 30-40% by 2040, while also reducing carbon emissions and improving energy security. The implications of this research highlight the importance of supportive policies and investments in renewable energy technologies to achieve a sustainable energy transition.
