Abstract

This study aims to analyze the potential for developing Wind Power Plants (PLTB) in Gorontalo Province, focusing on wind speed in several strategic locations. The consistent and relatively high wind speeds in coastal and lowland areas of Gorontalo make the region highly suitable for developing wind energy as a renewable energy source. This research utilizes meteorological data to measure wind speed at four locations: Batudaa Pantai 1, Batudaa Pantai 2, Kwandang, and Sumalata. The analysis reveals that wind speeds range from 6.73 m/s to 7.08 m/s, with electricity generation capacity per turbine ranging from 146 kW to 170 kW. The total electricity capacity that can be generated by 30 turbines across these locations is 18.9 MW. This potential provides a significant contribution to meeting renewable energy needs in Gorontalo and Indonesia in general. However, the development of PLTB in this area requires further consideration of technical, economic, social, and regulatory aspects. Therefore, it is recommended to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study to assess the technical and economic viability, as well as the social and economic impacts on local communities. Additionally, government support in terms of policy and fiscal incentives will expedite the development of PLTB in Gorontalo, which in turn can contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting sustainable energy in the future.

Abstract

Remote islands in Indonesia face significant challenges in achieving sustainable electricity supply. This study analyzes the technical and economic feasibility of implementing a hybrid Solar Power Plant (PLTS) and Wind Power Plant (PLTB) system on Dudepo Island, North Gorontalo Regency. With an average solar radiation of 5.2 kWh/m²/day and wind speed of 4.8 m/s, the hybrid system is designed to supply approximately 97% of local electricity demand with an efficiency of 85%. Simulations using HOMER Pro reveal an optimal configuration of 100 kW PLTS, 60 kW PLTB, and 300 kWh battery storage. Economic analysis indicates a Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) of IDR 1,450/kWh, more affordable than conventional diesel generators, with an eight-year payback period. The system’s implementation has enhanced community well-being by providing stable electricity access for education, healthcare, and economic activities. Moreover, it contributes to carbon emission reduction by up to 120 tons of CO₂ annually. Technical challenges and local human resource capacity necessitate sustainable management strategies, including technician training and IoT-based monitoring systems. This study offers recommendations for sustainable renewable energy development on remote islands as a model for environmentally friendly energy transitions.

Abstract

The rapid growth of the city in Pulubala Urban Village, Gorontalo City, has resulted in pressure on the environment and the use of green open space (RTH). This study aims to analyse the use of green spaces in the residential area of Pulubala Village, which is inhabited by various ethnic groups. The method applied was descriptive qualitative, with data collection through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research findings indicate that RTH in Kelurahan Pulubala, covering an area of 0.50 Ha, consists of two categories, namely RTH Settlement Area and Smart Park. The benefits of RTH include play areas for children, social activities, and improved environmental quality. However, problems such as lack of space, poor condition, and environmental pollution threaten the sustainability of RTH. To optimise the utilisation of green spaces, better planning, increased public awareness, and the development of attractive facilities are needed. This research is expected to contribute to the preservation and development of green open spaces in urban areas.

Abstract

Deforestation in Indonesia's hilly regions has a significant impact on increasing the rate of erosion and sedimentation. This study aims to systematically examine the effects of deforestation on erosion and sedimentation processes and evaluate conservation approaches used to mitigate these impacts. The method employed is a literature review of various relevant national and international studies, focusing on tropical upland areas in Indonesia. The analysis reveals that the conversion of forests into agricultural land, plantations, and settlements results in the loss of vegetative cover, which plays a critical role in stabilizing soil particles and regulating surface runoff. The resulting impacts include increased erosion rates, soil structure degradation, and elevated sedimentation in water bodies, which deteriorate water quality, reduce reservoir capacity, and harm aquatic ecosystems such as coral reefs and mangrove forests. Effective conservation approaches include vegetative techniques such as reforestation and agroforestry, as well as mechanical techniques such as terracing and check dams. The main recommendation from this review is the need for integrated conservation policies, community participation, and the mapping of vulnerable areas to achieve sustainable and adaptive land management in Indonesia’s hilly regions.

Abstract

This study analyzes integrated modeling for renewable energy development in Gorontalo Province, Indonesia, focusing on enhancing sustainable energy systems. The projection for renewable energy usage is expected to reach 23% by 2025. This research identifies various challenges, including dependence on fossil fuels and energy shortages due to inadequate infrastructure. The study employs a quantitative descriptive approach and dynamic system modeling to evaluate the potential of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and biomass. The findings indicate that strategic interventions can significantly increase the penetration of renewable energy from 1-2% to 30-40% by 2040, while also reducing carbon emissions and improving energy security. The implications of this research highlight the importance of supportive policies and investments in renewable energy technologies to achieve a sustainable energy transition.

Abstract

Watershed management requires active community participation as a key actor in ensuring environmental sustainability. This study aims to analyze the forms, levels, and factors influencing community participation in the management of the Bone Bolango Watershed in Gorontalo Province. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach supported by quantitative data from questionnaires distributed to 45 respondents. The results show that 75.6% of respondents are unaware of watershed programs, and only 24.4% have been involved in the planning stage. In the implementation stage, participation reaches 53.3%, mainly in reforestation and waste management activities. About 48.9% are aware of the evaluation process, but only 40% consider it transparent. Some community members (44.4%) perceive economic benefits, especially from planting productive trees. Educational activities are considered effective by 71.1% of respondents, although participation remains limited. The Bone Watershed Forum is viewed as strategic, yet community involvement needs to be strengthened. Enhancing local institutional capacity, transparency, and cross-sector collaboration is essential to improving sustainable community participation in watershed management.
