Abstract

One way to convert conventional cigarettes to electronic cigarettes is by using vapes. Electronic cigarettes have been widely available since 2014 and have gained popularity among various customer demographics. The number of people using electronic cigarettes in Indonesia continues to increase every year. The trend of vape pods has gained popularity among Generation Z and other young generations. Many people use vape pods because they provide a variety of flavors and less concentrated smoke. The use of vapes, or electronic cigarettes, has become common among young Generation Z. The purpose of this study was to determine the substantial impact of vaping and smoking on the lifestyle of Generation Z. The methodology used was a literature review using a qualitative descriptive study approach. Literature analysis was conducted using fifteen publications from national and international databases, including Google Scholar and PubMed, published between 2020 and 2025. The findings of the review indicate that a number of factors, such as family, friends, and environment, influence vape user adherence.

Abstract

Substance abuse involving Narcotics, Psychotropics, and Addictive Substances (NAPZA) among adolescents represents a significant and complex public health issue. According to data from the Indonesian National Narcotics Board (BNN) in 2023, the prevalence of NAPZA abuse reached 1.73% among individuals aged 15–64 years, with adolescents identified as a particularly vulnerable group. Adolescents’ susceptibility to substance abuse is influenced by various psychosocial factors, including family dysfunction, peer pressure, and emotional instability. This study aims to systematically review the determinants of NAPZA abuse among adolescents using the Health Belief Model (HBM) framework based on literature published between 2013 and 2025. A comprehensive literature review was conducted on 13 selected studies that met the inclusion criteria. The findings indicate that cues to action emerged as the most dominant HBM component influencing adolescent substance abuse behavior, followed by perceived susceptibility, perceived benefits, and perceived barriers related to ease of access to substances and unsupportive social environments. These results highlight the importance of integrating promotive and preventive interventions through family, school, and community-based education. Strengthening adolescents’ health beliefs through HBM-based interventions is expected to enhance risk awareness and foster sustainable preventive behaviors against substance abuse.

Abstract

Adolescent mental health is an essential component of optimal growth and development, yet it often receives less attention compared to academic achievement. Adolescents are in a vulnerable developmental stage characterized by emotional changes, social pressure, and environmental demands, which increase the risk of mental health problems. This activity aimed to improve knowledge and promote positive attitudes among junior high school students regarding adolescent mental health, including its definition, signs and symptoms, risk factors, and prevention strategies. The method used was a health education intervention employing a pre-test and post-test design. The activity was conducted at Al Amanah Junior High School, South Tangerang City, involving 25 students. The evaluation instrument consisted of a 10-item multiple-choice questionnaire with a maximum score of 100. The results showed that the average pre-test score was 98.40%, while the post-test score increased to 99.60%, indicating a 1.20% improvement. Although the increase was relatively small due to the high baseline knowledge (ceiling effect), the findings demonstrate that the educational intervention effectively reinforced students’ understanding of adolescent mental health. In addition, interactive discussions during the session contributed to increased awareness and reduced stigma related to mental health issues. This mental health education program has the potential to support early prevention efforts and foster a more supportive school environment for adolescents’ psychological well-being.
