Abstract

Cauliflower (Brassica oleracea var. botrytis L.) during its development period needs to be controlled by pests and diseases, because at that time the flowers or krobs come out and will determine the quality and quantity of its production. This research is conducted to characterize and differentiate various types of pests and diseases found in cauliflower plants in the gardens of Gonaman Village, Koripan, Matesih District, Karanganyar. This research employs a methodology based on descriptive qualitative analysis. The tools utilized in this study include a mobile phone, writing instruments, and observation sheets. The research subjects consist of various pests and diseases identified in the garden area. Data collection by observation of the garden and direct interviews with garden owners. For data analysis and validation, qualitative descriptive techniques are used with additional interview activities with cauliflower farmers and literature studies. Based on the results of the study, eight pests have been found, namely; Whitefly / Cabuk (Aphis brassicae), Thrips (Thrips tabasi), Whitefly (Aleyrodidae sp), Crop Caterpillar (Crocidolomia binotalis), Ladybug (Illeis galbula), Brown grasshopper (Valanga nigricornis), Leaf beetle (Aluacphora sp), Leaf caterpillar (Plutella xylostella). And four diseases were found; Alternaria brassicae fungus, bacterial rot by Pectobacterium carotovorum, Erwinnia carotovora bacteria, and Xanthomonas camprestis bacteria. The visible symptoms are damage to the leaves, yellow, brownish to blackish leaves, rotten and wilted flowers so that they can reduce the harvest. Pest and disease control can be done by spraying pesticides, fungicides once a week, maintaining land cleanliness, maintaining planting distance, selecting healthy seeds, and providing lime and boren. For further research, it should be done for several days, in the morning and evening when insects are active.

Abstract

This Community Service Program responds to the increasing volume of household medical waste, such as disposable masks, diapers, syringes, and expired medicines, which are often disposed of carelessly and pollute the environment. The partners are located in the Home Mojolaban Sentul housing complex RT 02 RW 7 Mojolaban Sukoharjo, which is a new housing complex, with 30 young couples and many toddlers who often have problems with medical waste. The objectives of this program include educating the community about medical waste, the dangers of medical waste, and how to sort medical waste. The activities designed and implemented include socialization and training on sorting and managing medical waste. From the results of counseling and training on managing household medical waste for residents of the Home Bekonang Sentul housing complex, it can be concluded; There was an increase in understanding about managing household medical waste from an average score of 68.5 to 89.58, meaning there was an increase in understanding of 21.08 (35.47%). For waste sorting skills, all participants are skilled because the average score is 97. Household Medical Waste Management Training Activities and the like still need to be implemented and improved, because they have many benefits for improving public welfare and health.

Abstract

Long photoperiods can delay flower initiation and slow down the formation of flower primordia, so they can delay flowering. This study aims todetermine the photoperiodism response of four o'clock flowers (Mirabilis jalapa L.) to the short length of irradiation. The research was carried out for 3months (April-June 2024) and specifically data collection was carried out on 8 June 2024 in Bulurejo village, RT.03 RW. 04, Karangmojo, Weru District,Sukoharjo Regency, Central Java. From 05.53 WIB to 17.30 WIB. Samples of 15 plants growing in Bulurejo village, observed when the flowers bloom. Datawere analysed descriptively qualitative and combined with literature studies. The results of research on 15 plants of four o'clock flower (Mirabilis jalapa L.),the same species and location of four o'clock flower blooming turned out to be different times even though the difference was only slight. The average time ittakes to bloom is 10 hours 42 minutes. Further research needs to be done with a variety of different flowers, not only red flowers, but plus white, red andmixed colours with varied village locations, especially at differentaltitudes.Four o'clock flower (Mirabilis jalapa L) is a member of the family Nyctaginaceae, order Centrospermae, and is easy to grow in the yard withoutmuch care.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze terrestrial insect diversity and develop a local potential-based exploration module for high school biology learning aligned with the Merdeka Curriculum. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) design adapted from the Borg and Gall model, consisting of biodiversity data collection, module design, expert validation, and limited field testing. Field observations conducted at the Integrated Agricultural Laboratory of Jagan, Sukoharjo recorded 641 terrestrial insect individuals with a moderate level of species diversity and a relatively stable ecological structure. These empirical data were transformed into structured learning materials incorporating exploration activities, guided inquiry, and reflective tasks. The developed module was validated by subject-matter experts, instructional design experts, biology teachers, and Grade X students. The validation results indicated a very high level of feasibility, with expert scores exceeding 87% and positive responses from both teachers and students in terms of clarity, relevance, readability, and usability. These findings suggest that integrating authentic local biodiversity data into instructional modules enhances the quality and meaningfulness of biology learning. The module also demonstrates strong potential for adaptation in other regions through contextualization based on local biodiversity resources. Pengembangan Modul Eksplorasi Berbasis Potensi Lokal untuk Pembelajaran Keanekaragaman Serangga Darat di Sekolah Menengah Atas ABSTRAK: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis keanekaragaman serangga darat serta mengembangkan modul eksplorasi berbasis potensi lokal untuk pembelajaran biologi SMA yang selaras dengan Kurikulum Merdeka. Penelitian menggunakan desain Research and Development  yang diadaptasi dari model Borg dan Gall, meliputi pengumpulan data biodiversitas, perancangan modul, validasi ahli, dan uji coba terbatas. Hasil observasi lapangan di Laboratorium Pertanian Terpadu Jagan, Sukoharjo mencatat 641 individu serangga darat dengan tingkat keanekaragaman sedang dan struktur ekologi yang relatif stabil. Data empiris tersebut kemudian diintegrasikan ke dalam bahan ajar yang memuat aktivitas eksplorasi, penyelidikan terbimbing, dan refleksi. Modul yang dikembangkan divalidasi oleh ahli materi, ahli desain pembelajaran, guru biologi, dan siswa kelas X. Hasil validasi menunjukkan tingkat kelayakan yang sangat tinggi, dengan skor ahli di atas 87% serta respons positif dari guru dan siswa terkait kejelasan, relevansi, keterbacaan, dan kegunaan. Temuan menunjukkan integrasi data keanekaragaman hayati lokal dalam modul pembelajaran mampu meningkatkan kualitas dan kebermaknaan serta dimanfaatkan di berbagai daerah berbasis potensi lokal.

Abstract

This study aims to explore and compare the daily behavioral patterns of purebred Himalayan cats and domestic (corner) cats (Felis catus) within a shared environmental context. Observations were carried out in Kesongo Hamlet, Sukoharjo Regency, employing scan sampling and ad libitum techniques over a three-week period. Recorded behaviors were classified into affiliative, self-maintenance, and negative categories. The findings revealed that Himalayan cats demonstrated a higher frequency of affiliative behaviors, including feeding, autogrooming, and approaching humans indicating a predisposition to emotional bonding and a preference for stable domestic settings. Conversely, domestic cats primarily exhibited self-maintenance behaviors such as roaming and climbing, reflecting stronger adaptive traits and instinctual responses to dynamic environments. Negative behaviors were relatively rare in both groups; however, aggressive tendencies were more commonly observed in domestic cats. These results underscore the influence of both genetic predispositions and environmental conditions in shaping feline behavior. The study offers valuable contributions to the field of ethology and provides practical insights for enhancing feline welfare by addressing breed-specific behavioral needs.
