Abstract

Background: Adolescents is a vulnerable age group susceptible to mental health issues, particularly psychological distress, which includes symptoms of depression and anxiety. While physical activity is known to benefit mental health, its direct relationship with psychological distress in adolescents has shown inconsistent findings. Purpose: To analyze the relationship between physical activity levels and psychological distress in adolescents. Method: A cross-sectional design, involving 386 students from three high schools in East Kalimantan. Data were collected using questionnaires, adopting the Kessler Psychological distress Scale (K10) and the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ). Results: The majority of respondents (88.6%) were categorized as having high physical activity. Analysis revealed no significant association between physical activity levels and psychological distress (p = 0.802; OR = 1.141; 95% CI: 0.609–2.140). However, these results indicated a non-significant trend towards an increased risk of distress in the low physical activity group. Conclusion: No significant association was found between physical activity levels and psychological distress in adolescents. Nevertheless, a notable proportion of adolescents with low physical activity remains, warranting attention. Interventions to promote physical activity are still important. Keyword: Adolescents; Physical Activity; Psychological Distress.

Abstract

Community empowerment is a strategic step to improve the quality of life through increasing the capacity of individuals and communities, especially in the health sector. Posyandu Sanggar Waringin, Lok Bahu Village, faces challenges such as low immunization coverage, lack of community knowledge about nutrition, and high prevalence of preventable diseases. This activity aims to improve the skills of Posyandu cadres in the use of infant and toddler nutrition education media and communication with the community through the Lentera program (Latihan Edukasi dan Komunikasi Kader Mandiri). The research method used a participatory approach with activities including interviews, observations, social mapping, and focus group discussions involving 6 Posyandu cadres. Interventions were conducted through training using educational media and practice of searching for health information from the Ministry of Health website. Evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test analyzed by Wilcoxon test. Results showed a significant increase in cadres' knowledge and skills, with a pre-test mean score of 65 increasing to 87.5 in the post-test (p = 0.024). In addition, the training also increased cadres' confidence in presenting nutrition information. This activity succeeded in strengthening the cadres' capacity as community health agents, potentially improving the community's understanding of nutrition and supporting stunting prevention efforts. In conclusion, empowerment through the Lentera program is effective in improving the quality of services at Posyandu Sanggar Waringin, with a focus on nutrition education and communication. The program is expected to create a sustainable positive impact on public health.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) remains a major public health issue in Indonesia. In 2023, a total of 114,720 DHF cases were reported nationwide, with an incidence rate (IR) of 41.4 per 100,000 population—still far above the national target. East Kalimantan is one of the provinces with the highest IR (147.33/100,000). Samarinda City is among the top three areas with the highest number of cases. One of the affected areas in Samarinda is Temindung Public Health Center, which recorded 83 DHF cases, with 52% occurring in children aged 10–14 years, indicating that this age group is the most vulnerable to DHF. This study aimed to analyze the risk factors associated with DHF incidence among children aged 10–14 years in the working area of Temindung Public Health Center. A quantitative approach was used with a case-control study design and total sampling of 81 respondents, consisting of 27 cases and 54 controls. Data analysis was conducted using the Chi-Square test and Odds Ratio (OR) calculation. The results showed significant associations maternal knowledge (p= 0.001; OR= 11.440), PSN behavior (p= 0.001; OR= 7.231), cadre support (p= 0.022; OR= 3.571), and health facilities availability (p= 0.034; OR= 9.100). Therefore, it’s recommended to involve students as mosquito larvae monitors, conduct thematic health education with PSN practice demonstrations, and optimize the distribution of facilities through Musrenbang and CSR-based partnerships.

Abstract

Nowadays, there are many infectious and non-communicable diseases that easily infect a person, one of the efforts is to prevent disease infection by implementing good and correct personal hygiene. The reproductive organs must also be maintained in hygiene and health which can be called genitalia hygiene. However, genitalia hygiene is still taboo in Indonesian society so there are no specific guidelines that are taught formally or with standard health standards because it is considered only a hereditary science. In fact, hygiene behavior is very important to do well in preventing negative impacts on the reproductive health of women who are also prospective mothers in the future. The purpose of this study is to explain the influence of "genitalia hygiene" education and training with lectures, demonstrations, and discussions on increasing the understanding of students of SMAN 5 Samarinda on reproductive health materials in general, reproductive health in women, genitalia hygiene and menstrual hygiene management. This research method uses quantitative methods with a pretest and posttest. The results of this study show that there is an influence between the provision of health education and training regarding genitalia hygiene on the level of knowledge of class X and XI students of SMAN 5 Samarinda.
