Abstract

Diarrhea remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality among infants in Indonesia, especially in areas with limited access to clean water and sanitation. This community service activity aims to improve mothers' understanding of the signs and symptoms of diarrhea in children, raise mothers' awareness of maintaining their children's hygiene and health to prevent diarrhea, and provide practical training on the initial treatment of diarrhea. The methods used include interactive lectures, group discussions, demonstrations on making oral rehydration solution (ORS), handwashing practice, and distribution of leaflets. The participants consisted of 30 mothers of young children in Bangun Rejo Village, Tanjung Morawa Subdistrict. Evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test knowledge assessments. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in mothers' knowledge regarding the prevention and management of diarrhea. Participants were able to identify diarrhea symptoms, practice making ORS, and were more prepared to take their children to healthcare facilities if dehydration signs were present. This activity demonstrated that community-based health education is effective in enhancing mothers' knowledge and preparedness in preventing diarrhea.

Abstract

Background The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that the number of fever cases in children reaches 62%. Management of fever can be in the form of non-pharmacological therapy. One non-pharmacological therapy for fever is to apply a compress using aloe vera. Aloe vera contains lignin and saponin which can vasodilate the skin and reduce body temperature. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of information and actions on giving aloe vera compresses on reducing body temperature in children with fever at the Nassau Kec.Nassau Kab.Toba Tahun 2024. This research is a type of quantitative research with a quasi-experimental research design with a pre-test and post-test design without control with subjects of 30 children aged 3 – 6 years who had a fever at the nassau public health center, nasaau district, toba regency in 2024. Community Health Center. The sampling technique in this research is total sampling, namely a sampling technique when all members of the population are used as samples. The intervention carried out was applying compressaloe vera to the forehead for 15 minutes. Temperature measurement using a digital thermometer. The data analysis used is univariate and bivariate analysis. The test used is the non-parametric Wilcoxon test. The results of this research, namely the results of statistical tests using the Wilcoxon test stated that giving aloe vera compresses had an effect on changes in body temperature in fever sufferers with a p value = 0.002 (α < 0.005) with a temperature decrease of 0.486 ºC. The conclusion of this study is that there is a significant influence on the results of measuring body temperature before and after giving aloe vera compresses to children who have fever at the nassau public health center, nasaau district, toba regency in 2024.

Abstract

According to WHO data (2023), global DPT immunization coverage has decreased due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Around 25 million children worldwide have not received complete DPT immunization in 2022, which is the highest figure in the last decade. Meanwhile, the 2023 Indonesian Health Profile noted that the coverage of complete DPT-HB-Hib immunization doses (three times) has only reached 85.3%, still below the national target of 95% (WHO, 2023). Giving warm compresses to babies who receive DPT immunization injections can cause a warm, comfortable and calming effect, in the form of touch that can cause the release of endorphins, thereby blocking the transmission of pain stimuli, and can also reduce redness and swelling at the DPT immunization injection site. (Runiari & Surinati 2012) The purpose of this study was to analyze the Effect of Warm Compress Therapy at the Injection Site on Pain in Infants During DPT Combo Immunization at PMB Pera, Medan Tuntungan District, Medan City. This type of research is a quasi-experimental study using the Post-test only control group design approach, namely to determine the effect of warm compress therapy at the injection site on pain responses in infants during DPT Combo immunization. The population in this study that will be used is 40 babies (20 babies for the experimental group and 20 babies for the control group). The sampling technique used is a non-probability sampling technique with a purposive sampling approach. The research instrument is a closed questionnaire that has been tested for validity and reliability. Data was analyzed using the Kolmogorov Smirnov statistical test to determine the distribution of data. Meanwhile, to compare the warm compress group with the control group using the Mann-Whitney test. Based on the results of data analysis with the Mann Whitney Test, the Symp.sig value of 0.000 <0.05 means that Ho is rejected. So it can be concluded that there is a significant effect between warm compress therapy at the injection site during DPT Combo immunization on pain responses in infants at PMB Pera, Medan Tuntungan District, Medan City, North Sumatra Province in 2025.
