Abstract

Forests store biomass and carbon in the form of living trees, forest floor detritus (e.g. litter falls), soil and wood products. This study describes inventory results of the above ground biomass of teak (Tectona grandis L.f.). By determining the site condition and developing allometric method, the inventory was designed to estimate the potential of above ground biomass of teak. This study aims to determine the characteristics or site qualities, carbon stock and find out whether the characteristics of the soil has a high or low correlation to the carbon stored in teak forest in Taman Wisata Alam Camplong, East Nusa Tenggara Province. Carbon stored in teak forests are 45.53 ton/ha and 104.35 ton/ha for IV and V age classes, respectively. The correlation between soil characteristics and carbon stock is obtained that the P and K soil has a positive correlation to carbon stock in the teak forest. The equation model for the relationship between growing conditions and aboveground carbon stocks is Y=25.182-4.149X1-172.231X2 + 2.046X3 + 32.711X4 + 0.297X5-28.330X6-1.746X7 +0.171X8.

Abstract

The Kupang State Agricultural Polytechnic Arboretum is a vegetation collection located in an area with arid and semi-arid climate characteristics. Understanding the vegetation composition and tree architecture model is important information for effective arboretum management and conservation planning in the East Nusa Tenggara region. This study aims to analyze the vegetation composition to determine the Importance Value Index (IVI) at various growth phases and to identify the dominant tree architecture models in the Kupang State Agricultural Polytechnic Arboretum.Vegetation data collection was conducted using the line transect method, covering the seedling to tree phases. The data were analyzed using INP calculations, while tree architecture models were analyzed descriptively and exploratively based on tropical tree architecture references. The results of the vegetation analysis showed that dominant species such as Kirinyuh (Chromolaena adorata), Gewang (Corypha utan), Gamal (Gliricidia sepium), and Jati Putih (Gmelina arborea) had the highest importance values in each growth phase, indicating high adaptability to dry land conditions. The most commonly found tree architecture model was the Troll Model (in 9 of 12 species), characterized by a broad and leafy canopy. The Attims and Rauh models were also found in several species with specific ecological functions. The dominance of adaptive species and the Troll Model indicate that the arboretum functions optimally as shade, windbreak, and erosion control, which are essential for ecological functions in drylands. This study provides important ecological baseline data for conservation management and sustainable green open space development in the semi-arid region of East Nusa Tenggara.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to enhance the knowledge and capacity of the Berkat Farmer Group in Noekele Village, Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, through the implementation of a sustainable agrosilvopastoral system based on multifunctional crops, namely gmelina, Gamma Umami grass, and butterfly pea flowers. The program was implemented using an educative and participatory approach, with evaluation instruments in the form of assessment rubrics analyzed descriptively. The results of the program showed an improvement in community understanding of the agrosilvopastoral concept and the benefits of multifunctional crops in supporting sustainable livestock feed availability. The implementation of the integrated planting system was considered easy to apply and has the potential to improve land-use efficiency, livestock feed stability, and community welfare. This activity demonstrates that an agrosilvopastoral approach based on multifunctional crops is a relevant strategy for sustainable land and livestock management in East Nusa Tenggara.
