Abstract

DOI: 10.17014/ijog.6.3.291-309The researched area is situated at Mount Rendingan and its surrounding area, Lampung Province, the southern part of Sumatra Island. It has a big potential of geothermal resource in line with a unique graben like bowl landform and geothermal surface manifestations. This research was carried out using remote sensing and field observation methods. The remote sensing method used topography and Shuttle Radar Topography Mission -Digital Elevation Model (SRTM-DEM) maps to analyze morphotectonic attributes, and the result was validated by morphotectonic data analysis from field observation. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the relation between morphotectonic and the appearances of geothermal surface manifestations. The interpretation of SRTM-DEM and topographic maps are supported by morphotectonic analyses, which indicate that the geothermal surface manifestations in this area are controlled by tectonic activity. It has various levels of lift which are shown by the values of valley height weight ratio (Vf) from 0.16 to 3.31 and the values of mountain front sinuosity (Smf) from 1.05 to 2.09. The morphotectonic characteristics can describe the geological structure activity levels which are reflected in the landform and its rock. The volcanic areas consist of igneous rocks which have small primary permeabilities. However, the development of geological structure can cause fractures in the rock that step in as a medium for passing geothermal fluid from depth to surface. They are found on the fault intersection zone system trending NE-SW and NW-SE, NNE-SSW and NNW-SSE, and WE system directions that indicate the fault system is correlated with the appearances of geothermal manifestations.

Abstract

Sorik Marapi geothermal area in Mandailing Natal Regency, North Sumatra Province has a high-temperature geothermal system that is interpreted from the chemical characteristics of hot springs. The presence of alteration minerals such as epidot in exploration well cutting samples strengthens the estimated reservoir temperature reaches 235⁰C. The presence of hot water are more acidic hot spring around fumaroles and the minerals obtained from the drill well reflect the upflow zone while the hot spring group of neutral chloride water in the north with lower elevation reflects the outflow zone of the geothermal system here. This is a characteristic of hot fluid flow that occurs in geothermal areas of volcanic systems with steep terrain as well as Sorik Marapi area.

Abstract

The area of Mount Tampomas which is located in Buahdua District, Conggeang District, and Tanjungkerta District, Sumedang Regency, West Java was chosen as the research area because it is predicted to have geothermal potential with the presence of geothermal manifestations such as hot springs. The presence of manifestations relates to permeable zones controlled by geological structures. The lineament of the ridge and valley was observed and analyzed using ASTER GDEM remote sensing imagery and Indonesia Earth Form map (RBI), scale 1:25.000. The purpose of the study is to find out the relationship between permeability and the presence of geothermal manifestations in the research area. Research method by conducting remote sensing and fault fracture Density (FFD) analysis using 3D micromine software modeling. Results of remote sensing analysis with irradiation angle of 0°, 45°, 90°, 135° and altitude 45° shows the main pattern of the ridge - valley lineament interpreted as a fault in the research area have a relatively northwest-southeast and northeast-southwest direction. Indications of geological structures in the field are shown by the morphology of valley-ridges, in some places has a steep slope that form the fault escarpment and triangular facet. The FFD analysis results in the research area have varying permeability classes shown by low FFD values (0.00–3.00 km-1), medium (3.00-6.00 km-1) and high (6.00–9.33 km-1). The geothermal manifestations appear in the permeability zone that have medium to high FFD values marked by orange and red colors. From 3D micromine software modeling of the permeability zone and plotting of hot springs on the surface, it is clear that the appearance of hot springs to the surface is facilitated by faults that develop in the research area.

Abstract

Administratively the area of Mount Slamet is located in Central Java Province. The area has geothermal potential. The purpose of research is to find out the geochemical characteristics of water (type, origin, and equilibrium) and estimate of subsurface temperature (reservoir) geothermal by using methods of observation in the field and analysis of data from the geochemical laboratory results of hot springs. The results showed that the characteristics of the geothermal fluids type from MAPS and MAPP13 were bicarbonate water with the condition as pheripiral waters. MAPCB as a chloride sulfate water type with conditions as steam heated water, while MAPTH as a chloride water type in absorption of low B/Cl steam conditions with dominant Cl content become mature water. The origin of the MAPS, MAPCB, MAPP13 fluids are formed under conditions of absorption of high B/Cl steam with a dominant B content which are interpreted as originating from geothermal fluid, and when they moving to the surface the fluid interacts with the side rocks in its path. In addition, MAPS, MAPCB, MAPP13 are also included in the immature waters zone with high Mg content. This indicates that the three hot springs have intensive experienced mixing and dilution of shallow groundwater rich in Mg. Then, based on the difference in the concentration ratio of Cl/B in hot springs, the research area is interpreted have two reservoirs, namely reservoir A and reservoir B. Then, based on the calculation of the fluid geothermometer, it is estimated that reservoir A has temperature ranges from 149o -158oC, while reservoir B has temperature ranges from 89o -116oC.

Abstract

The appearance of geothermal manifestations in the Nokilalaki area is related to the morphology and geological structure which is influenced by the tectonic activity of the Palu - Koro segment. The study of geomorphic index through the calculation of river branching ratio (Rb), mountain face sinusitis (Smf), valley bottom width ratio - height (Vf) and lineament density (Ld) to determine the relationship of geomorphic index characteristics to the appearance of geothermal manifestations. The research method is remote sensing analysis and geomorphic index analysis on the Indonesian Topographical Map (RBI) and ASTER – DEM images to obtain the main pattern of geological lineaments and geomorphic index values. The value of the geomorphic index describes the level of tectonic activity and permeability in rocks, which plays a role in generating geothermal fluid from a geothermal system at depth to the surface. Based on the combination of geological lineament maps, geomorphic index maps and distribution of geothermal manifestations, the study area has two groups of geothermal manifestations. The area with the main pattern of geological lineament trending northwest – southeast is an area that is not deformed (Rb value: 4.55), active tectonic activity (Smf value: 1.34 – 1.53), high uplift (Vf value: 0.47), low lineament density (Ld value: 0.49 – 0.91), is associated with the appearance of geothermal manifestation groups in the depression edge of the Palu - Koro fault segment in the center of the study area. The main patterned area of the north- northeast-south-southwest geological lineament is a non-deformed area (Rb value: 4, 20), active tectonic activity (Smf value: 1.47), high uplift (Vf value: 0, 22), medium to high lineament density (Ld value: 1.37 – 2.75), associated with the emergence of groups of geothermal manifestations in the hilly area of the edge of the Palu - Koro fault segment in the southwest part of the study area.

Abstract

The location of the Papandayan study area is administratively located in the Cisurupan District, Regency Garut, West Java Province, was chosen as a research site because estimated to be an area that has geothermal potential. The purpose of this study is to determine the direction of the alignment of the structure, type of fluid, origin, and approximate subsurface temperature of the geothermal fluid. The method used in this research is DEM-SRTM image to determine the pattern of ridge and valley alignment that reflects the geological structure in the study area. Data processing of geochemical laboratory analysis results of geothermal fluid and remote sensing are supported by observing the phenomenon of landscape, geological structure and physical properties of geothermal manifestations on the surface in the field. The results of the alignment analysis of the SRTM-DEM image processed in the rosset diagram shows the alignment pattern (geological structure) in the study area tend to have North East-South West. The results of water chemical data plotting in the Cl-SO4-HCO3, Cl-Li-B and Na-K-Mg ternary diagrams show the characteristics, types of water in the study area as chloride-sulfate and sulfate types. The fluids move to the surface as an upflow and have been mixed and diluted with shallow ground water or meteoric water, and significant reaction occurs between the fluid and the wall rock which it passes. The results of the calculation by using water geothermometer, it can be estimated that subsurface temperature in the study area between 170°C-237°C.
