Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic validity of the American Diabetes Association (ADA) risk score for prediabetes screening among prospective Hajj pilgrims in 2025.Methods: A diagnostic cross-sectional study was conducted on 232 prospective pilgrims from KBIHU Multazam Addakwah using total sampling. The primary variables were the ADA risk score (cut-off ≥4) and fasting plasma glucose as the reference standard. Data were collected through the ADA risk questionnaire and fasting glucose measurement, then analyzed using ROC curve and diagnostic performance metrics. Results: The prevalence of prediabetes was 10.99%. The ADA risk score demonstrated a sensitivity of 65%, specificity of 57.4%, positive predictive value of 15.8%, negative predictive value of 93%, and overall accuracy of 58.2%. The area under the curve (AUC) was 61.0% (95% CI: 50.7%–71.3%; p=0.042).Conclusion: The ADA risk score shows good exclusion capability for prediabetes but limited discriminatory accuracy, and therefore cannot yet be recommended as a standalone primary screening tool for Indonesian Hajj pilgrims without further modification. Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by progressive dysfunction of pancreatic beta cells. In 2019, the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) stated that Indonesia ranked seventh out of ten countries with the highest number of diabetes sufferers, namely around 10.7 million people. A literature review was conducted by searching for articles in the Google Scholar, PubMed, and Sciencedirect databases. A total of 24 journals were included in the review. The literature review revealed that family support is associated with dietary compliance in patients with diabetes mellitus. It is hoped that families will provide support to patients with diabetes mellitus to improve their dietary compliance.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) is a key determinant of treatment success for people living with HIV (PLHIV) in Indonesia. Family support is thought to play a crucial role in enhancing this adherence, yet existing research findings remain inconsistent. Objective: This literature review aims to synthesize recent evidence on the relationship between family support and ART adherence among PLHIV in Indonesia. Method: A systematic review was conducted by searching articles in PubMed, Google Scholar, and Science Direct (publication range 2021-2025). Nine cross-sectional studies meeting the inclusion criteria were synthesized using the PRISMA method. Result: Seven out of nine studies (77.8%) reported a statistically significant relationship between family support and improved ART adherence. Dimensions of emotional, instrumental, and informational support were consistently associated with positive outcomes. Inconsistencies in findings from some studies were suspected to be related to variations in measuring the "family support" construct and socio-cultural contexts. Implication: The predominant evidence supports the positive role of family support in ART adherence in Indonesia. Adherence promotion programs are recommended to integrate family-involved interventions, considering multidimensional and context-specific measurement approaches.
