Abstract

Water is an essential component in the body that plays a role in various physiological functions, including concentration and learning performance in adolescents. However, teenagers' awareness to consume enough water is still low. This service activity aims to increase the knowledge and awareness of SMP Negeri 1 Kolaka students about the importance of drinking water through health education. The activity method was carried out by interactive counseling using PowerPoint media displayed through an LCD projector and conducted in the school hall on 19 November 2024, attended by 70 students from classes VII to IX. The material was delivered in an engaging manner and was complemented by discussion sessions. The results of the activity showed an increase in student enthusiasm and participation, as well as an awareness to start bringing drinking water to school and reduce the consumption of sugary drinks. This activity proved effective in fostering students' understanding of the importance of adequate hydration for health. The students expressed a greater willingness to incorporate healthier habits, particularly bringing water to school and making informed choices about hydration. Moreover, they became more aware of the negative impacts of sugary drinks. The activity's success highlights the importance of continued support from schools to create a healthy learning environment and to encourage healthy behaviors that can positively impact students' overall health and academic performance.

Abstract

Nursing care documentation based on the Indonesian Nursing Diagnosis Standards (SDKI), Indonesian Nursing Outcome Standards (SLKI), and Indonesian Nursing Intervention Standards (SIKI) plays a crucial role in ensuring quality and patient safety. This study aimed to examine the relationship between nurses’ knowledge of SDKI, SLKI, and SIKI and the implementation of nursing care documentation at Benyamin Guluh Kolaka Hospital. A descriptive analytic design with a cross-sectional approach was employed. A total of 53 nurses were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through a knowledge questionnaire and a nursing care documentation questionnaire. Data analysis consisted of univariate and bivariate analyses using Spearman’s Rho test. The results indicated that most nurses had good levels of knowledge and nursing documentation performance. However, statistical analysis revealed no significant relationship between nurses’ knowledge and nursing care documentation (p = 0.503; r = −0.094). This study concludes that nursing documentation quality is not solely determined by knowledge but is also influenced by other factors in nursing practice.

Abstract

Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a common vascular complication in individuals with diabetes mellitus and hypertension and may lead to diabetic foot ulcers and limb amputation if not detected early. This community service program aimed to conduct early detection of PAD among high-risk populations through Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) screening and Random Blood Glucose (RBG) testing. The activity was carried out in Sabiano Village, Wundulako Subdistrict, Kolaka Regency, involving 27 participants aged 42–72 years. The methods included measuring systolic blood pressure in the arm and ankle using the MESI ABPI MD device to determine ABI values and assessing RBG levels to identify hyperglycemia. The results showed that most participants had normal ABI values ranging from 0.90 to 1.30. However, one participant had an ABI value below 0.90, indicating a risk of PAD, while five participants had RBG levels of ≥200 mg/dL, suggesting uncontrolled blood glucose levels. These findings indicate the presence of individuals requiring further medical evaluation and follow-up. ABI screening proved to be an effective, practical, and non-invasive method for identifying vascular disorders in at-risk populations. This program highlights the importance of routine screening as a preventive effort to reduce vascular complications and strengthen primary healthcare services through early detection and timely intervention.
