Abstract

The aim of this study is to explore the effectiveness of basic life support (BLS) in improving the success of respiratory arrest management. Through a literature review, this study highlights the importance of a quick and precise response in the implementation of BLS, as well as the role of extensive community training and collaboration between authorities and the medical community. The research method used is a qualitative method, involving in-depth analysis of various sources related to BLS and best practices in respiratory arrest situations. Data were collected from journal articles, books, and relevant health institution reports, and then analyzed to identify key factors influencing BLS effectiveness. The conclusion of this study indicates that the success of BLS heavily depends on individual skills and knowledge, the support of medical facilities such as automated external defibrillators in public places, and strong collaboration between health authorities and the medical community. With joint efforts to enhance training and the availability of medical facilities, the survival chances of individuals experiencing respiratory arrest can be significantly increased.

Abstract

Abstract

Respiratory failure is a critical condition that requires intensive medical attention and is one of the leading causes of death among adult patients. This condition is characterized by the failure of the respiratory system to exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide effectively, which can lead to serious complications such as congestive heart failure, pneumonia, and organ failure. According to WHO and CDC data, respiratory failure contributes to a significant number of deaths with a fairly high incidence in Indonesia. Respiratory failure is a medical condition characterized by the occurrence of severe and sudden shortness of breath that usually occurs within 12-48 hours after a trigger, such as trauma, sepsis and aspiration (entry of gastric secretions or foreign objects into the lungs) due to decreased oxygen levels in the blood oxygen to enter the blood sufficiently. Respiratory failure can cause complications such as having a higher risk of congestive heart failure, having a high risk of pneumonia and suffering from organ failure. There are several types of respiratory failure that are classified based on the causative factors, namely severe acute lung disease, neuromuscular disorders, adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), infant respiratory distress syndrome, acute chronic lung disease.

Abstract

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition resulting from the body's systemic response to infection that causes organ dysfunction. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment are essential to improve patient outcomes. This case report aims to describe the management of sepsis in a 55-year-old male patient diagnosed with antibiotic-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection. This retrospective study analyzed the patient's clinical and laboratory data, including blood culture, SOFA score, and therapeutic interventions given. The patient was given hemodialysis, broad-spectrum antibiotics, vasopressors, intravenous fluids, and supportive care. The results showed significant improvement in the patient's clinical status, supporting the importance of early recognition, appropriate antibiotic therapy, and a multidisciplinary approach in the management of sepsis. This case highlights the challenges of managing infections caused by multidrug-resistant pathogens and the importance of effective treatment strategies and judicious antibiotic management.
