Abstract

Divorce not only changes the legal status of a couple, but also impacts the social and economic conditions, especially for a woman who has experienced a divorce “post-divorce”. The women who have recently divorced often face significant changes in their economic capacity, social networks, and access to resources. This condition then encourages them to develop strategies to become independent socially and economically. This study aims to analyze how women develop their strategies for being independent in social and economic aspects after post-divorce in Makassar City. This study used a descriptive qualitative method by using a purposive sampling technique, where five females who had been divorced for two years became the informants. The data collection was conducted through observation and in-depth interviews. The results shows that post-divorce women implemented two forms of economic strategies, namely (1) independent strategies based on microbusiness such as they were selling some foods and fried foods, and work strategies in the informal service sector such as working as laundry employees and Sales Promotion Girl for cosmetics (2) In the social aspect, the informants were actively in community group activities and reconstruct their self-confidence to maintain their survival. (3) Factors supporting their independence came from strong family support and individual psychological control. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of the Guided Note Taking learning strategy in improving student learning outcomes in Social Studies (IPS) at the elementary school level. The study employed a qualitative approach using a classroom action research (CAR) design, conducted over two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were 19 fifth-grade students at SD Inpres Rappocini in Makassar. Data collection techniques included observation, testing, and documentation, while data analysis was conducted using both qualitative and quantitative descriptive methods. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of the Guided Note Taking strategy was able to significantly improve student learning activities and learning outcomes. Teachers’ instructional activities improved from the “adequate” category to “good,” followed by an increase in students’ learning activities, who became more active in note-taking, discussion, and understanding the material. Additionally, students’ learning outcomes improved from the “very low” category in Cycle I to the “very high” category in Cycle II, with the majority of students achieving the Minimum Competency Criteria (KKM). These findings indicate that the Guided Note Taking strategy is effective in improving the quality of the social studies learning process and outcomes. This study contributes to the development of learning strategies oriented toward active student engagement and provides practical implications for teachers in designing more interactive and effective learning experiences. Abstract

Maccelleng-celleng is a traditional component of Bugis marriage ceremonies in Pangkep Regency, conducted on the night preceding the wedding. The tradition involves a visit by the groom’s extended family to the bride’s residence, a family convoy, a door-opening ritual, and the throwing and catching of snacks or household necessities. Modernization, changing family relations, technological development, and the growing influence of religious rationality have affected both the form and meaning of this tradition. This article examines the transformation of Maccelleng-celleng, the cultural elements that remain preserved, and the adaptive mechanisms supporting its continuity. The study employed an integrative literature review of publications addressing Maccelleng-celleng, Bugis marriage practices, ritual transformation, modernization, and cultural resilience. The literature was analyzed through thematic identification, comparison, interpretation, and conceptual synthesis. The review identifies four major transformations: a functional shift from verifying the bride’s presence to celebrating social togetherness, the replacement of ritual objects with modern consumer goods, negotiation between customary practices and Islamic norms, and an increasing need for digital documentation and intergenerational transmission. Despite changes in its outward form, Maccelleng-celleng continues to function as a means of connecting families, reinforcing solidarity, expressing collective happiness, and affirming Bugis cultural identity in Pangkep. Modernization therefore does not simply eliminate tradition. Instead, it encourages communities to select, reinterpret, and contextualize inherited practices. The sustainability of Maccelleng-celleng depends on the community’s capacity to preserve its central meanings while adapting its modes of performance to contemporary social, religious, and technological conditions.
