Abstract

This study aims to explore the impacts of social media addiction on marriage, as well as the role of pastoral counselors in assisting couples to overcome such addiction and strengthen their marital commitment. Social media addiction can disrupt face-to-face communication, diminish the quality of shared time, and enhance feelings of detachment. Moreover, unrealistic social comparisons and online conflicts can erode trust and stability within marriage, even increasing the risk of divorce. Through a qualitative approach, this research will identify effective strategies and methods employed by pastoral counselors to address the negative impacts of social media addiction on marital dynamics. It is hoped that the findings of this study will provide profound insights into the importance of the pastoral counselor's role in supporting couples to overcome social media addiction and fortify their marital commitment.

Abstract

The Minahasa community is known for its fondness for singing or vocal music. The song that has become the identity of the Minahasa community is known as Ma'kaaruyen. This research explores how the Minahasa community's way of life is interpreted through the song Ma'kaaruyen; a traditional musical artwork originating from Minahasa. Ma'kaaruyen is assumed to be one of the arts that reflects the life of the Minahasa community. Through a qualitative descriptive approach and analysis of the text found in the Ma'kaaruyen song, it was found that it contains meanings that integrate with the values of the Minahasa community's way of life. The musical elements in Ma'kaaruyen reflect the character and nature of traditional Minahasa society, which are associated with simplicity, tranquility, gentleness, cooperation (mapalus), and a loving attitude towards others. The extramusical meaning of Ma'kaaruyen from its lyrics is that Ma'kaaruyen is a song that conveys religious messages, advice, love, and expressions of the heart (lamentation and regret). Thus, the Ma'kaaruyen song has a reconciling function, which includes four main aspects of living in peace: a) reconciling with Allah, b) reconciling with oneself, c) reconciling with fellow human beings, and d) reconciling with the environment.

Abstract

This study examines the relevance of the Minahasa tradition of Foso Rumages in pastoral counseling practice from a contemporary perspective. The Minahasa tradition is rich in cultural values that can significantly support the pastoral counseling process. Cultural values of Minahasa religiosity, such as awareness of the supernatural, belief in life before and after death, and the celebration of Foso Rumages, provide a strong theological foundation for dialogue with the Christian faith. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach to depict and analyze existing phenomena, emphasizing the characteristics, qualities, and interrelationships between cultural traditions and pastoral counseling practices. Through the integration of values of community and togetherness, respect for ancestors, and the use of rituals and symbolism from Minahasa traditions, this study finds that these cultural elements can enhance the effectiveness of pastoral counseling. The results of this research show that the integration of Minahasa traditions in pastoral counseling practice not only increases the effectiveness of counseling but also ensures that the approaches used are aligned with the cultural and spiritual values of the clients. This supports a more comprehensive and sustainable healing process and makes a significant contribution to the development of more inclusive and locally-oriented pastoral counseling practices.   Penelitian ini mengkaji relevansi tradisi Minahasa Foso Rumages dalam praktik konseling pastoral dari perspektif kontemporer. Tradisi Minahasa kaya akan nilai-nilai budaya yang dapat mendukung proses konseling pastoral secara signifikan. Nilai-nilai religiusitas budaya Minahasa, seperti kesadaran akan supranatural, kepercayaan pada kehidupan sebelum dan sesudah kematian, dan perayaan foso rumages, memberikan dasar teologis yang kuat untuk percakapan dengan agama Kristen. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif untuk menggambarkan dan menganalisis fenomena yang ada, menekankan karakteristik, kualitas, dan keterkaitan antara tradisi budaya dan praktik konseling pastoral. Melalui integrasi nilai-nilai kebersamaan dan komunitas, penghormatan terhadap leluhur, serta penggunaan ritual dan simbolisme dari tradisi Minahasa, penelitian ini menemukan bahwa elemen-elemen budaya ini dapat meningkatkan efektivitas konseling pastoral. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa integrasi tradisi Minahasa dalam praktik konseling pastoral tidak hanya meningkatkan efektivitas konseling tetapi juga memastikan bahwa pendekatan yang digunakan selaras dengan nilai-nilai budaya dan spiritual klien. Hal ini mendukung proses penyembuhan yang lebih komprehensif dan berkelanjutan, serta memberikan kontribusi signifikan dalam pengembangan praktik pastoral konseling yang lebih inklusif dan berorientasi pada kearifan lokal.
