Abstract

Dental and oral health have a great role in human life. Tooth is also related to one’s body health especially in food processing. This study is aimed to determine the description of knowledge and motivation of mothers towards dental care of children Gunung Tinggi Village, Village III Sub District Pancur Batu Sub District Deli Serdang District. The type of this research is descriptive research with survey method . The data were collected by using questionnaires finding out the description of knowledge and motivation of mothers towards dental care of children aged 1-5 years. The sample of this research were 30 mothers and children in Gunung Tinggi Village, Dusun III Pancur Batu Sub District, Deli Serdang District. The results of this study indicate that the knowledge of 10 mothers (33.3%) is in good category, and 20 people (66.7%) are in moderate category, and there was no mother in poor category. Based on mothers’ motivation, 22 peoples (73,3% ) were in good criteria, 8 people (26.7%) were in moderate criteria, and no mother with poor criteria. Based on dental health status,10 people (33,3%) had caries and 20 people (66,7%) had no caries. The results showed that the level of knowledge and motivation is very influential towards the dental care among the children. It is expected that mothers put effort to maintain the dental health of their children by guiding the children to good and proper dental health care.

Abstract

Dental and oral health problems can occur due to inadequate knowledge about oral and dental health maintenance techniques. Dessimination is an effort to increase knowledge of dental and oral health maintenance techniques using certain media, one of which is the spinning wheel game. This research is descriptive with a survey method, using a questionnaire, before and after dessimination, which aims to get an overview of dissimination, using a rotating wheel, on the level of knowledge of 30 grade 5 students regarding techniques for maintaining oral health at State Elementary School No. 101816 Pancur Batu. The results of the research show the level of knowledge of grade 5 students at State Elementary School No. 101816 Pancur Batu before and after dessimination by playing the spinning wheel: before dessimination, 10 students (33.3%) with good criteria, 16 students (53.3%) with medium criteria, and 4 students (13.4%) with bad criteria. and after dessimination, 23 students (76.7%) had good criteria, 7 students (23.3%) had medium criteria and none had bad criteria. This research concluded that there was an increase in students' knowledge after participating in the discussion by playing the spinning wheel. It is hoped that the dental and oral health team and schools educate students on maintaining oral health using media spin wheel games to increase elementary school students' knowledge.

Abstract

Oral health is an important part of general health. Oral health has a negative impact on body development and quality of life and oral hygiene causes tooth decay. The success of maintaining oral health can also depend on knowledge. Knowledge of oral health in children will affect the behavior of maintaining dental health in children. This type of research is quantitative with a quasi experiment and uses univariate and bivariate data analysis with the Wilcoxon test. . The sample in this study was a minimum sample of 30 respondents in grade VI students of SDN 060934 Jl Luku II Kec. Medan Johor with a sampling technique using total sampling. This research was conducted in October 2024. using univariate and bivariate data analysis with the Wilcoxon test. The results of the statistical test of this study showed that there was a significant difference in increasing knowledge between before and after counseling using carpet media (question cards) with a p value <0.05. The conclusion of this study is that health promotion using carpet games (question cards) is effective in increasing dental and oral health knowledge in students. It is recommended that schools make dental health education programs more interesting by providing health education, so that student behavior and knowledge become better and of higher quality
