Abstract

This study was motivated by limited empirical research on the effectiveness of multisensory methods in improving beginning reading skills at the elementary school level. The study aimed to examine the effect of the multisensory (VAKT) method on the beginning reading skills of second-grade elementary school students using a quantitative quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group design. The sample consisted of two classes: Class II B, the experimental group, which received multisensory instruction, and Class II A, the control group, which received conventional instruction. Data were collected through a beginning reading skills test and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test, the Mann–Whitney U Test, and N-Gain analysis. The results showed a significant improvement in the experimental group following the implementation of the multisensory method, with high effectiveness as indicated by N-Gain results. Although no statistically significant difference was found between the experimental and control groups, descriptive analysis showed that the multisensory method positively supported students’ learning progress. The study concluded that the multisensory method demonstrated effectiveness in enhancing beginning reading skills within the experimental group and was recommended for elementary reading instruction.

Abstract

The research problem in this study was that students’ listening skills in Indonesian language learning were not yet optimal. This study aimed to determine the effect of integrating Interactive Read Aloud assisted by Literacy Cloud on students’ listening skills in narrative text learning. A quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design was employed in this study. The research was conducted at SD Negeri 6 Metro Timur in the 2025/2026 academic year. The research sample consisted of the entire population, comprising 32 third-grade students, selected using a saturated sampling technique. Data were collected through two techniques: a test in the form of essay questions consisting of fifteen items and a non-test technique in the form of observation sheets. The results showed that the integration of Interactive Read Aloud assisted by Literacy Cloud had a significant effect on students’ listening skills in narrative texts.

Abstract

The problem in this study is the low reading comprehension ability of students. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) learning model assisted by digital storybooks in improving the reading comprehension ability of elementary school students. The research method used is a quasi-experimental design with Nonequivalent Control Group De-sign. Data were collected through test instruments and analyzed using the Inde-pendent Sample T-Test and the score improvement test (N-Gain score). The re-sults of the study showed a significant difference between the experimental class and the control class. Students who learned using the CIRC model assisted by digi-tal storybooks showed a higher increase in reading ability compared to students who used the Think Pair Share (TPS) model. Thus, the CIRC model assisted by digital storybooks is effective in improving the reading comprehension ability of el-ementary school students.

Abstract

The problem in this research was the low listening ability of fourth-grade students in Indonesian language learning at SD Negeri 26 Tulang Bawang Tengah, which had not yet reached the Learning Objective Achievement Criteria (KKTP). This research aimed to determine the effect of the Cooperative Learning model of the Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) type on the listening ability of fourth-grade elementary school students. The research method used was a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group design. The population in this research consisted of 70 students, while the sample consisted of 46 students, including 23 students in the experimental class and 23 students in the control class. The data collection techniques were conducted through pre-test and post-test, observation, and documentation. The data analysis used normality tests, homogeneity tests, N-gain tests, and simple linear regression tests. The results of the research showed that the Cooperative Learning model of the Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) type affected the listening ability of fourth-grade students in Indonesian language learning at SD Negeri 26 Tulang Bawang Tengah.

Abstract

The saturation and decrease in the focus of students during learning Indonesian becomes one of the challenges faced by educators in elementary school. This research aims to describe the application of ice breaking in Indonesian language learning in grade IV of State Elementary School 7 Eastern Metro as well as the factors that affect its implementation. The research uses qualitative methods with a case study approach. Data was collected through observation, interview, and documentation. Research results show that ice breaking is done when students start to lose focus or show signs of saturation. The activities used are in the form of clapping, singing, and simple games that help create a more active and fun learning atmosphere. Factors that affect the implementation include student interest, learning conditions, educator creativity, differences in student character, and limited learning time.

Abstract

The problem in this study was the low learning outcomes of Indonesian language students in elementary school. This study aimed to determine the effect of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) model assisted by Quizwhizzer media on students' Indonesian language learning outcomes in elementary school. The research method used was a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group design. The research population consisted of 44 fourth-grade students of SD Negeri 8 Metro Utara. The sampling technique used was saturated sampling, so the entire population was used as the research sample. Data were collected through tests in the form of pretests and posttests, as well as observations. Data were analyzed using a simple linear regression test and a t-test. The results showed that the simple linear regression test obtained a significance value of less than 0.05, indicating that the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) model assisted by Quizwhizzer media had an effect on students' Indonesian language learning outcomes. The results of the t-test also showed a significance value of less than 0.05, indicating a significant difference in learning outcomes between the experimental class that used the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) model assisted by Quizwhizzer media and the control class that used the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model.

Abstract

The research problem addressed in this study is the difficulty of early reading among third-grade elementary school students, despite the expectation that, at this stage, learners should have achieved reading fluency as a foundational skill for comprehending instructional materials. This study aims to analyze the factors contributing to early reading difficulties among third-grade students at SDN 4 Metro Barat in the 2025/2026 academic year. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with students serving as the primary informants, while teachers and the school principal act as supporting informants. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that early reading difficulties are hierarchical and interrelated, encompassing both technical aspects and reading fluency. Out of 32 students, 9 were identified as experiencing difficulties in letter recognition, phonemic differentiation, syllable blending, reading simple sentences, and achieving reading fluency. These difficulties are influenced by internal factors, such as cognitive capacity, concentration, and self-confidence, as well as external factors, including family support and literacy habituation within the social environment.
