Abstract

Background : Antibacterial is a compound used to control the growth of harmful bacteria. Microorganism growth control aims to prevent the spread of disease and infection. The bacteria that cause infection are Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus epidermidis. The leaves are also believed to be efficacious as drugs in the treatment of kidney disease, dysentery, esophageal infection, stopping bleeding, launching menstruation, medicine for venomous animal bites, and swelling. The life-sustaining ethanol extract was positively correlated with its anti radical activity. The ethanol extract contains alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and steroids. Saponins, flavonoids, tannins and steroids are compounds that have antibacterial properties. Objective: This study was aimed to determine the antibacterial activity of the ethanolic extract of the grafted leaves (Gynura procumbens) against the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa AND Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria. Methods: Extraction of the leaves of Connect Nyawa was carried out using the Masarasi method using 70% ethanol as a solvent. The ethanol extract obtained was phytochemical screening and antibacterial activity test against Staphylococcus epidermidis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa using agar diffusion method using disc paper with 3 repetitions and giving positive control of chloramphenicol and treatment with concentrations of 12.5%, 10%, 7.5 %, 2.5%, and 5%. The medium used as an antibacterial test was Mueller Hinton Agar (MHA). Results: The results of the simplicia characteristics of Connect Nyawa Leaves obtained water content of 0.886%, seawater content of 13.7%, ethanol soluble extract content of 16.06%, total ash content of 9.4%, acid insoluble ash content of 36.1%. Screening of extracts of life-long leaves and simplicia showed the presence of alkaloids, tannins, saponins, flavonoids, and steroids. The results of the bacterial activity test showed that the ethanol extract of life-sustaining leaves against Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria with concentrations of 12.5%, 10%, 7.5%, 2.5%, and 5%, each had an inhibitory zone with a diameter of 6.5 mm, 7 mm, 8.2 mm, 6 mm, 6 mm, while Staphylococcus Epidemidis. Conclusion: The result of this research is that the extract of the grafted life leaf (Gynura procumbens) has antibacterial activity against the growth of Staphylococcus epidermidis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Abstract

Sweetened condensed milk is cow's milk in which the water is removed and added sugar, resulting in milk that is very sweet in taste and can last for a year if it is not opened. Sweetened condensed milk products, powdered milk, and sterile milk are often made in packaging made of plastic and cans to avoid the influence of sunlight, packaging time, storage and others. And as a result of the packaging, the product is often damaged either microbiologically, mechanically or chemically. These cans are lined with other coating materials with certain protection. This is to prevent a reaction that could cause the can to corrode and leak. The presence of these metals, even in small levels, will endanger the health of consumers and considering that heavy metals will accumulate in the body, so that gradually the levels will increase and are very dangerous to health, including Pb and Fe metals that can act on the can. Qualitative testing is to determine the presence of the metal present in the sample and quantitative testing is to determine how much content is present in the sample. Before carrying out quantitative testing, the samples were first destroyed using wet destruction. From the results of qualitative testing, all samples contained Pb and Fe metals. From the results of quantitative testing on Pb, the lowest sample was found in sample 3 of 0.0105 mg/kg and sample 5 of 0.0105 mg/kg, this did not exceed the SNI 297.2011 threshold of 0.02 mg/kg. While the results for heavy metal Pb at large concentrations in sample 1 were 0.0239 mg/kg; sample 2 of 0.0371 mg/kg, and sample of 0.0262 mg/kg exceeds the threshold of SNI 297.2011 of 0.02 mg/kg while for heavy metal Fe is still below the threshold allowed by SNI 297.2011 which is 10.0 mg/kg, namely sample 1 of 0.0081 mg/kg; sample 2 of 0.0100 mg/kg; sample 3 of 0.0079 mg/kg; sample 4 is 0.0068 mg/kg and sample 5 is 0.0122 mg/kg.

Abstract

African leaves (Vernonia amygdalina Del) contain flavonoids that can provide antioxidant effectiveness fromflavonoids and also contain vitamins C and E. And its function is to neutralize free radicals. The purpose of this study was to formulate facial wash gel preparations from African leaf extract, as well as to identify and test the safety, quality, and benefits of the formulation preparations. This research method was carried out experimentally. African leaf ethanol extract was obtained by maceration using 96% ethanol extract which was then concentrated with a rotary evaporator at a temperature of 40oC, then formulated in facial wash gel preparations with concentrations of 1% (Formula 1), 3% (Formula 2), and 6% (Formula 3). Evaluation of facial wash gel preparations included organoleptic examination, pH test, homogeneity, stability, viscosity, spreadability, and foaming power. Irritation test and effectiveness test using a skin analyzer on the volunteer's facial skin, the parameters measured included water content and pore size, the treatment was carried out for 4 weeks. The results of this study indicate that the evaluation of facial wash gel preparations is well formulated and stable, African leaf extract is formulated as a facial wash gel that can provide effectiveness on the volunteer's facial skin, namely increasing moisture on the skin and decreasing pore size on the volunteer's facial skin for 4 weeks of use.
