Abstract

: The purpose of this study was to determine the significant differences in learning achievement between scholarship and non-scholarship students at Madako University of Tolitoli, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Department of English Education. This study used quantitative methods The instrument in this study was documentation. The researcher used IBM SPSS program to analyze the data. The results of this study showed that the average score obtained by scholarship recipient students reached a score of 3.74, while non-scholarship recipient students obtained an average score of 3.73. Normality test with significant test results for scholarship students is 0.023 <0.05 and normality test with significant test results for non-scholarship students is 0.003 <0.05, so the data is not normally distributed. The results of the Whitney u test mean difference test were significant 0.279> 0.05 so that it was stated that the Ho hypothesis was accepted, and Ha was rejected, so the study concluded that there was no significant difference between scholarship and non-scholarship students.

Abstract

This study aim ed to determine (1) the types of multipurpose media used by the teacher in teaching English ; (2) The students’ perception of the media used by teacher in teaching English.The Data collection was conducted from July to August 2024 of 10 students of class VIII of SMP N 2 Lampasio from two classes. This study used a descriptive qualitative research method, the instruments used are documentations and interviews. The Documentations was used to obtain evidence of the media used by the teacher in class VIII of SMP N 2 Lampasio and interviews were conducted with students of class VIII. The results of the study showed that the types of multipurpose media used by the teacher in teaching English were 1.whiteboard, 2.English books, 3.dictionaries, 4.modules,and 5.cardboards. The total respondents of this study were 11,consisting of 1 English teacher and 10 students. The result of the student interviews showed that most students given positive perceptions of the media used by the English teacher in the teaching process based on the 3 indicators used, the first indicator is absorption of stimuli,in this indicator the results obtained are that students felt happy, more enthusiastic and active, more enthusiastic in learning English. The second indicator is understanding or comprehension of the object, in this indicator it is found that students easier to understand the material, they benefited from teaching media, helped students in teaching English,and the last indicator is individual assesment or evaluation of the object,in this indicator students felt confident, helped in students’ creativity and motivation, and attracted students’ attention. Meanwhile, there are also some students who give negative perceptions toward the media used by English teacher in teaching process, namely they cannot pronounce words correctly or lack of student vocabulary, there is a feeling of boredom due to the continuous use of the same teaching media and the class conditions which are sometimes noisy.

Abstract

: The researcher aims to determine whether there is a significant correlation between grammar mastery and writing ability of eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Tolitoli. This study uses a correlational research design. The sample consists of 25 students of class VIII H who were selected purposively. The data were analyzed statistically using SPSS 25. The results of the study indicate that there is a correlation between grammar mastery and writing ability, with a correlation coefficient of 0.548 which is in the range of 0.40–0.599, which indicates a moderate correlation. The data shows that the Sig. (2-tailed) value = 0.006, which is smaller than 0.05. Therefore, the null hypothesis (H₀) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Hₐ) is accepted. These results indicate that there is a significant correlation between grammar mastery and writing ability.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the factors causing students to experience difficulties in listening skills in the eighth semester English Language Study Program, Madako University. In this study, the researcher focused on the factors that hinder students in listening skills, including how students overcome these obstacles. The respondents of this study were eighth semester English Language Study Program students, Madako University. This study is a qualitative descriptive study where the researcher collected data using direct interview techniques. To obtain data and research results from students who were sources based on the researcher's findings, several factors were found that caused problems for students in the listening skills process. Namely 1. Cultural Differences, 2. Quality of Recording Materials, 3. Unfamiliar Vocabulary, 4. Length and Speed ​​of Listening, 5. Physical Condition, 6. Noise-Related Problems, 7. Lack of Concentration.
