Abstract

The rapid acceleration of digital information has intensified the phenomenon of doomscrolling the compulsive consumption of negative news that erodes psychological stability and self-control. This study analyzes doomscrolling behavior through the Stoic Dichotomy of Control, which distinguishes between what is within human agency and what is not. Using a qualitative descriptive-analytic design supported by thematic content analysis, it synthesizes insights from empirical psychology, digital sociology, and classical Stoic philosophy. The findings demonstrate that persistent exposure to distressing online content correlates with anxiety, cognitive exhaustion, and reduced emotional agency, with global surveys indicating that approximately 82% of adolescents engage in habitual doomscrolling. The Stoic concept of prohairesis rational moral choice—emerges as a vital strategy for managing digital impulses by focusing on internal judgment rather than uncontrollable external stimuli. The research concludes that applying Stoic ethical principles within digital literacy and mental health education can enhance self-regulation, mitigate compulsive media behavior, and promote psychological resilience amid the incessant flow of online information

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the lexical and cultural meanings in the Seren Taun ceremony, one of the human life cycle rituals performed by the Sundanese people. This ceremony plays an important role in maintaining the social and spiritual balance of the community and preserving Sundanese cultural heritage. Using a linguistic anthropology approach, this study analyzes various terms and symbols used in the Seren Taun ceremony and examines how these meanings reflect the values and worldview of the Sundanese people. Data was collected through participatory observation and analysis of written documents related to the ceremony. The results of the study show that the lexical meaning in Seren Taun is not limited to the literal meaning of the words used, but also includes deep cultural connotations. Symbols such as rice, water, and fire in this ceremony contain meanings related to fertility, life, and purification. In addition, this study found that the Seren Taun ceremony serves as a medium to strengthen the collective identity of the Sundanese people and convey noble values such as mutual cooperation, togetherness, and respect for ancestors. Through this ceremony, the Sundanese people also pass on traditional knowledge and wisdom to the younger generation, ensuring the continuity of their culture amid changing times. This research contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of the relationship between language, culture, and rituals in Sundanese society. These findings also emphasize the importance of preserving local languages and cultures as part of national identity and world cultural heritage. Thus, this study provides valuable insights for researchers, cultural practitioners, and policymakers in their efforts to preserve and promote Indonesia's cultural heritage.

Abstract

This empirical qualitative study investigates the semiotic representation of local wisdom in Southeast Asian folk narratives across Malay, Bugis, and Thai communities, integrating textual, performative, and ritualized data to examine how ethical, ecological, and social knowledge is encoded and transmitted. Using purposive sampling, the research collected oral narratives, manuscripts, visual artifacts, and direct observations of storytelling and ritual performances, complemented by semi-structured interviews with community elders and knowledge holders. Data analysis employed thematic and semiotic content analysis grounded in Saussurean, Peircean, and ecosemiotic frameworks, coding indexes, icons, and symbols across multimodal contexts. Results demonstrate that multimodal semiotics—including gestures, costume motifs, vocal modulation, and symbolic repetition—function as pedagogical and ethical devices that reinforce comprehension and memory among participants. Comparative analysis highlights both functional universality and cultural specificity, with symbolic motifs conveying ecological stewardship, moral responsibility, and social norms consistently across communities. The study further shows that digital and performative adaptations preserve semiotic density while expanding interpretive reach. The findings contribute to theoretical frameworks of semiotics, cultural pedagogy, and knowledge transmission, offering methodological guidance for future empirical research on folk narratives.

Abstract

This article examines the role of Tasawwuf in spiritual education and its contribution to moral development within contemporary Muslim societies. Employing a normative and qualitative literature-based approach, the study analyzes scholarly works on Sufism, Islamic education, and moral formation to explore how Tasawwuf functions as an ethical and pedagogical framework. The findings reveal that Tasawwuf emphasizes inner spiritual purification, moral self-discipline, and the cultivation of virtues such as sincerity, compassion, and humility, which are essential for holistic moral development. Beyond individual character formation, Tasawwuf also strengthens collective ethics by fostering social responsibility, moderation, and moral resilience through communal spiritual practices and moral leadership. In educational settings, the integration of Tasawwuf contributes to value internalization by aligning spiritual consciousness with ethical behavior. The study concludes that Tasawwuf remains a relevant and adaptive moral resource capable of responding to modern social challenges, including digitalization and moral disorientation. Its integration into spiritual education provides a balanced approach that connects inner spirituality with ethical engagement in social life.

Abstract

This study investigates Indonesian consumers’ intentions to purchase eco-friendly household  This study examines consumer intentions toward eco-friendly household products in Indonesia using the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) as the primary analytical framework. Relying exclusively on qualitative document analysis, the research synthesizes findings from reports, policy documents, and institutional publications to explore how attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control shape sustainable purchasing intentions. Results indicate that consumers develop positive attitudes when they perceive eco-friendly products as beneficial for the environment, energy efficient, safe, and cost-effective. Subjective norms, particularly those emerging from family and close social groups, exert strong influence within Indonesia’s collectivist cultural context. Perceived behavioral control is shaped by environmental knowledge, green trust, product availability, affordability, and the clarity of environmental information, which together determine consumers’ sense of capability to adopt sustainable products. Despite rising environmental awareness, barriers such as limited product access and price premiums continue to inhibit intention-to-behavior conversion. The study highlights the importance of expanding TPB with contextual variables such as knowledge and trust to enhance explanatory power. These insights provide implications for policymakers, manufacturers, and sustainability advocates aiming to strengthen eco-friendly household consumption in Indonesia

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms of discourse produced by the television program Xpose on Trans7 in its coverage of pesantren. It examines how Xpose Trans7 frames the relationship between kiai and santri, and compares this framing with the concepts of ta’dzim and khidmah as practiced within the pesantren tradition. The analysis employs Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis framework. The findings indicate that the discourse produced is characterized by polarization and sensationalism. At the textual level, the program employs sarcastic narratives such as “wealthy kiai” versus “santri who give envelopes,” reinforced by negative analogies that reduce adab (ethical conduct) to the notion of punishment. Xpose Trans7 frames the kiai–santri relationship as exploitative and unjust. This framing stands in contrast to the traditional concepts of ta’dzim and khidmah, which are understood by santri as forms of spiritual devotion aimed at seeking blessing (barakah). The discourse reflects an underlying ideological divergence, wherein modern egalitarian values are mobilized to challenge the authority and traditional practices of pesantren.
