Abstract

The way society communicates has changed significantly as a result of advances in digital technology, particularly how ideas are expressed on social media. The rise in online defamation claims is one legal issue arising from the ease of access to information. The purpose of this essay is to examine the crime of defamation on social media from a legal perspective, using provisions from the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (UU ITE) and the Criminal Code (KUHP). Using a normative approach, it is found that the two legal instruments differ significantly in terms of the elements of the crime and their sanctions. Furthermore, it remains difficult for law enforcement to distinguish between insults and freedom of expression in defamation cases, particularly those related to criticism of public figures. To curb such violations, this essay also emphasizes the importance of restorative justice strategies and improving digital literacy. Thus, in the digital age, it is crucial to strike a balance between safeguarding freedom of speech and preserving individual dignity.

Abstract

The Community Service Program (KKN) represents a concrete implementation of the university’s tri dharma, particularly in the area of community service. This study aims to describe the contribution of UINSU students participating in KKN in strengthening religious, educational, social, and environmental values in Tiganderket Village, Karo Regency, North Sumatra. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method with a participatory approach, in which students act not only as observers but also as active participants in various community activities. The results show that the implementation of KKN has had a positive impact on the community through programs such as regular religious gatherings (wirid), teaching in elementary schools, fardhu kifayah training, eco-print workshops, digital literacy and anti-bullying campaigns, environmental activities, and the “Festival Anak Bangsa.” Each activity was designed based on the local community’s potential and aimed at enhancing village independence and welfare. Furthermore, student involvement in social and religious activities has strengthened spiritual values and social solidarity among residents. Overall, the implementation of KKN not only fosters stronger social relationships between students and the community but also serves as a contextual learning platform for students to integrate knowledge, faith, social awareness, and moral responsibility in contributing to sustainable community development.

Abstract

This study employs a normative qualitative method with an analysis of classical and contemporary literature. The paper examines accusations of zina and legal protection for victims in the digital era. The background of the study is rooted in the complexity of the dissemination of zina allegations through social media and digital communication platforms, which have serious implications for individual honor, social reputation, and moral integrity. From the perspective of Islamic jurisprudence, unsubstantiated allegations are categorized as qadhf, requiring stringent evidentiary standards, including the testimony of four morally upright male witnesses or a voluntary confession, with violations attracting multidimensional sanctions such as corporal punishment, social discredit, and spiritual accountability. Indonesian positive law provides protection through the Criminal Code (KUHP) and the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (UU ITE), allowing victims to pursue criminal liability, compensation, and reputational rehabilitation. The results indicate that effective legal protection requires a multi-layered approach integrating law enforcement, technological interventions, and public education to restore victims’ social credibility and enhance deterrence against false accusations.
